I have been busy in the workshop this afternoon as I had a spare hour or so.
My baja is now in bits and requires a lot of tlc to get it back to a good standard

I found a few horrors and a few things are now clearer...

So far I want to replace all of the screws and bolts throughout the car i don't think FG designed this using wood screws..!!!
Half of the bearings are a bit gritty or tight so all will be replaced
the diff has a tooth missing and there was a couple of cable ties in place of a rear brace..

found out that was due to the engine being sat in the wrong place and the brace no longer fitted...there were some broken bolts in the alloy engine mounts and they had been redrilled to fit back into the car..:w00t:
they have now been removed...the joys of red locktite so the engine should now sit back in the correct place

have a few pics....

As it was when I got it

The missing brakes must be hiding with the missing brace

The car as it sits just now(hope to get the suspension stripped tonight)

All the spare that came with it..

Hopefully I will get a chance to strip the rest down and make up a list of things to order...

its getting there..

but how do you rate cellotape steering linkages????? :omg:

IMAG0464.webp

yes they did fall apart as I undone the radio try
and to think I had this running like that.

is there anywhere I can get a full kit of screws and bolts??
I've looked at rossmod and cant find a full package just loads of small packs

TIA

I will give them a ring tomorrow and see when it will be back in stock..Should be worth it...
Ordered the baja kit as they have them..your link was for marder...I know its basically the same but hey I'm sorted now.
got alot of things sorted and on order now is for the clean up but cant rebuild if I'm waiting on screwsand bolts...

I'll raid the box of nitro stuff in the morning and see if i have any turnbuckes that can be used as servo steering linkages if not a visit to the local model shop will be on the cards

The alternative is to make a list of fixings and visit your local supplier.

I have a set coming :D

Well that's at least 1 arm and half a leg spent so far...
and I have only had a 3 min run with it to make sure the engine was running ok..
hhhhhhmmmm divorce pending soon I think

What is the best weight of shock oil to use as a good start point ? ..I'm going to rebuild the standard shocks and loose the odd ones that have been fitted?
any ideas what they are from originally?

Im an amputee as well after buying the 2nd marder
2000wt FG shock oil is good for the std shocks. Not sure what the odd 1's are off??

I am begining to regret buying this....:(

the diff case is broken so I need another

the front wishbone pins on one side are bent..the pullstart cover is broken..

Why do people not look after these things...

so far ....

bearings are shot (found 4 good ones in total)
front rollcage is broken
diff gear has broken tooth and housing
layshaft gear has serious amount of wear
NO brakes.
broken radio tray
and bent front wishbone pins
and finally Screws and Bolts
:scared:

Well I will get it done but Ive run out of money for now..:hammer:
so Im short by diff housing and wishbone pins and front cage

I will clean and rebuild as far as I can with whats on order but I was hoping to get this sorted sooner rather than later
When the money is there I will get it sorted

I have ordered a screw kit and some new gears (layshaft and diff)
full set of bearings too
I've got a set of cable brakes coming too.
Im going to make up a new alloy radio tray and machine up some posts for it.

mate back at you :D

this hobby is harsh on the pocket  i must have well over 2k in my leo (not inc buyin it) if i totted all my bills up :lol:

The frustration will all be forgotten in a few weeks when its all shiny and new again  I know how you feel tho.

Its kind of forgotten already..

screws arrived today from wheelspin and it looks like a good kit

Brakes have arrived too and they look sweet

spent 3 hours today sanding back the body ..which turns out to be a lexan shell

at least 2 different colours on the inside and 4 colours on the outside...150g lighter now.

As the shell is no use for painting inside I will just give it a coat of paint to the outside. at least it will be better than when i got it

thats my engine cleaned and pull start cover replaced. the gpm fabric cover is fitted and all de-gunked. still needs mesh underneath though
chassis is clean and I'm only really waiting on parts now other than rebuilding the shocks.waiting on oil and seals which i should be able to get local.

the air filter cleaned up good but now needs re oiling what are the best oils to use and are there any to stay away from?

another pic for the interested..
