The other day, I took out my hpi baja 5b with 30cc engine and a NGK CMR7H spark plug after about 20 mins of running I pulled the spark plug wire since I don't have a kill switch, I need to get one asap and I noticed that my spark plug is extremely hot to the touch anyone know why that is?

Not being a smart ass but .........great way to get shocked and as heat is a byproduct of a combustion engine it all gets extremely hot....put a kill switch on it.......
I haven't gotten shocked yet,I'm wondering if I should get a cooler spark plug like a ngk cmr8h,and I'm in process of getting a kill switch but I'm extremely tight on money for the next couple months

Not to be a smart ass either but there is fire inside the cylinder which causes the engine to run and the byproduct is heat. The spark plug is part of the engine and cylinder heads are hot especially on an air cooled engine so yea it's hot by nature not by design.

Another vote for heat being caused by numerous explosions happening over and over and those explosions are caused by .. well you guessed it. The spark plug. Heat range is going to make little to no difference as far as how it feels to the touch.

Heat range gets changed if you read the plug and adjust accordingly for performance.
Leave it alone , the majority of these things run that exact plug.

kill switch might not be a bad idea though.

I'm going to recommend a couple things to you. Not to be a dîck either. Advice that might save you some headaches. If you lack the most basic knowledge of engines, so much so that you were not aware how hot spark plugs get in a running engine, my suggestion is to find someone local to you who is knowledgeable in small engines / gas rc and willing to explain some basic things to you, or take some small engine repair classes if available or, buy brushless rc cars and move away from the gas.

I know what its like. I got my first nitro 1/8th scale buggy when I was 12. Mail order from Hobby Lobby. I had nobody to help me and I didn't know anything more than what rc car action magazine wrote about. It wasn't until the local hobby shop connected me with a very knowledgeable RC racer that I was able to actually start, tune and run the car. I wish you lived close because I would be completely willing to teach you anything you need to enjoy the hobby.

Looking at that it is another perfect example how things change over time. Still in good shape for an older truck.

Personally, I love nitro.
I consider myself lucky that I understand how things work and have the ability to tune as well. I think that since they can be a little temperamental a lot of people get a bad taste and throw in the towel.

Nitro is where I started my tuning journey. If you can keep a nitro in tune without burning it down, you should be able to tune any 2 stroke.
