How much longer can they last and what are the part numbers to replace them?

RCDAD, w/ your gears and some parts I could probably still make the nitro challenge. One other thing I need is a metal servo arm for the savox 0235. Do you know who in the valley has those? Also if you can think of anything else I should have on hand for the race let me know. I have enough time to get one purchase in.

Here is what I have:

-Extra front/rear suspension arms

-Front rear axle carriers (but I have the aluminum fronts I made)

-Extra front camber links and steering links

-Extra wheel nut

-extra out drives

Do I need extra diff gears, brake parts, center gears, etc?

Thanks

The pins tend to break when the cups get sloppy.

The center cups are part# 50030

I'm not sure on the Savox arm. Good luck!

Re: My First E-Dune Runner

That's exactly what my dune runner looks like. All the center cups are chewed up bad

We could just swap them front to back to get more life out of them.

I'm getting my shopping list together. I think I'll still get a spare set anyway. Are there replacement f/r diff gear sets? Do they every break anyway?

It's official, The e-DR is registered for The Dirt Nitro Challenge. I don't know what class I'll run in but I'm not sure it'll matter much b/c they already said I won't be scored b/c it's brushless. I'm hoping the e-DR exposes another option to enter 1/5 scale and increases participation and interest.

I'm going to run with the belt drive. I just ordered up a handful of belts and extra pulleys. The belt gives me a lower gear ratio which equals cooler running and longer runtimes. I will have the gears on hand as a back up. I also ordered up some extra wheels and tires. I have extra suspension parts and I'm hoping all the parts I've machined hold up. My only concern at this point would be driveshafts, diff gears, and pins.

I know I'll be in the minority w/ the redcat but I just hope I can get the car through the whole weekend to show everyone it can compete. The only downside is I won't have nearly the parts support of the 5ives and Bajas so I'll need to drive carefully. If you're at the race, stop by and say hi.

Good luck! I'm hoping to free up a bit so I can swing out there.
Thanks, it'll be good to see you out there. Isn't Redcat a local company? Do you think they'll have a presence out there?

Alot of Redcat guys will be racing the smaller scales. I know Billy has a XB with my adapters and he will be out there, but not sure about racing.

What I did hear is the track will stay the same, with some minor tweaks. At least you will get a a trophy!!

Good luck out there, I am going to Irvine Lake for the weekend.

Thanks RCDad for the gears, I hope I don't have to use them :) I still need the 24t, 4 pin gear. They seem to be out of stock everywhere.

I'm still waiting on some parts:

1. diff gears, pinion, bearings, case, etc

2. belts and pulleys

3. tires and wheels

Today I put on the alloy servo arm and built some parts to beef up the plastic one for the savox servo. I still have the stock servo and a hobby king one for backup.

I need to come up w/ 4 options for the the drive gear plate. I'm currently machining some parts for different belt ratios. My goal for the nitro challenge is to just make it through the weekend and finish.

A new set of tires/wheels just showed up today. They are the same rovans I have been using. I like these b/c they are extremely light and I have yet to wear through the tread or split the tire. Once in a while a crack will form but I just a little CA on it and it's good. Unlike the stock tires which just blew apart on me one day.

I have been working on my pulley setup and make it more stout and ensuring I have more than one belt option. I have more pulleys and belts expected to show up on Thursday (cutting it a little close)

Next I'm going to take apart he center drive gear and lube the bearings and put a little teflon on the gears. I've never had an issue here but I've never cleaned those bearings since I purchased it. I probably should have bought some bearings as back up....hmmm.

I have my belt drive just about exactly as I want it. The pulleys are mounted well and everything spins freely. The only MAJOR issue I'm having is the belts heating up. They get hot after just a few minutes and even melt a little bit onto the pulleys. I don't know enough about belts to know why this is happening so if you do please chime in. But this has to be the reason for my belt failures.

Re: My First E-Dune Runner

My first thought from your pic is too much tension on the belt....the RCpitstop belt definitely has some play in it.

Sent from my Shoe-Phone using Tapa-Toe 2

What is the belt material? The Kevlar belts can't be back bent. That is the reason the belts that come with the kits we sell are fiber reinforced. The rubber material comes into play also.

The belts are from: http://www.econobelt.com/Q460/RFQ/default.asp?Page=tbelt/10.htm

It says: Nylon covered, fiber reinforced, neoprene.

The tension is good, it's not too tight, it has a nice amount a play. Not enough to inhibit rotation but not loose enough to slip.

What I think is happening is when the car coast the belt actually rubs against itself under the idler pulley. There is just enough slack that when off-throttle I can see it bunch up. I'm going to try and fab up some delrin to put in the middle that'll act as a guide to keep the belt from rubbing against itself and instead will rub against the delrin.

I have to try something b/c time is running out. If you have any other ideas I'm all ears.
