My MT Build Almost Finished

It has been a while, but I have been working on a few things on my MT. Last time I was out bashing the MT it took a fall on the top of the roof from about 10’. I damaged my roll cage and damage the spark plug. So I have been working on a new cage, based on my previous design but with better cross bracing and instead of using steel rod I used some 4130. I am also converting it into a TT for use at the track. I got an MCD RR body and I don’t want to cut the side of it so I am also working on fitting a VRC pipe to the rear of it. Here are some roll cage pics of the damaged V1 compared to the new V2.View attachment 1893View attachment 1894View attachment 1895View attachment 1896View attachment 1897

Great ideas man.. soon as I get use to my MT, I'll be giving it a go building a rollcage and shock tower.. Good Job!

Here are some pics of the modified VRC pipe installed along with the MCD body. I thought I was going to have to build a completely new rear bumper, but I was able to just extend the stock bumper. I still haven’t decided how I am gong to paint the body yet. I also have to fab a wing mount, in the pics I have it mocked up so I can see how it is going to look. As long as I don’t screw up the paint job, I think the conversion should turn out pretty good.View attachment 1898View attachment 1899View attachment 1900View attachment 1901View attachment 1902

Holy hawtsauce batman! Thats smokin man!
Thanks, I take it you approve of the new look. The paint scheme was the wife’s design, she made me paint it though. I just wish I was able to try it out more at the track yesterday. After about 5min of run time I had a front shock and then a battery issue which put an end to testing.

That’s a great question for Tom at Python Motor Sports, he needs to make some aftermarket shock towers for the Rampage. I don’t plan on making any to sell, but I have been thinking of a new design so if or when I do another set I will keep you in mind. I new I always wanted to run a rear exhaust at some point which is the main reason I designed the shock towers the way I did, I also wanted to be able to use a buggy body without cutting the noise off of it. I am not a big fan of the stock TT body, the look of it has never appealed to me.

No, I used a MIG, I wish I had a TIG. I with you on the bubbly MIG welds, I have my fair share of those, it’s amazing what black paint will hide. My father-in-law is trying to talk me into getting a Cobra torch but from the videos I have watched it looks like there is too much skill involved in using one, I think I will just stick with my MIG.
