I have recently purchased a Rovan Baja with the 30.5cc engine in and I am experiencing problems with it, I haven't even got it run in yet I have had it ticking over 3 times but while trying to start it again the pull starter failed, so I have replaced it but I can't get the engine to start now, I first thought it was an electrical problem but I am now convinced it's fuel starvation cos the engine will not fire using the recommended starting method but if I hold the throttle wide open and try to start it the engine attempts to fire, I need some advice on what the problem could be, firstly how is fuel drawn through the carb does it work on vacuum or suction method, basically I just need some advice on what the problem could be ?
 
Hi, thanks for the replies, I have taken the carb off and stripped it down just to make sure there are no blockages and everything is clean and clear, I have set the low and high needles to factory standard, another thing I meant to ask is, when everything is reassembled and I have primed the carb and engine would you expect to see air bubbles in the yellow return pipe to the fuel tank when the engine is and isn't running ? Many thanks
 
Here’s your solution if not starting....flooded...read article “leaky carb”


Don’t mess with needles at this point, it’s new. As long as you have spark it could be flooded and not drip fuel out the plug hole:)
Carb allows air to mix with gas and spark right, remove carb and simply let it set aside allowing air to go straight into engine intake. Raise car up off ground so you don’t have a run away....pull starter as necessary it’ll take just 1 time prob. The fuel and fumes that remain inside the cylinder will burn off with direct air coming in. After all fuel and fumes burns off itlll die, then check out and replace those gaskets. Do not over tighten those gaskets down. You don’t want to crack the gaskets... reinstall carb with new gaskets if damaged and it’ll new again... that’s how to unflood any 1/5 scale:)

Nobody here knows the history of your ride ,so therefore it would be hard to isolate your problem!

If you had bought the buggy new or second hand ,or how long it had sat an not been ran ,if it had sat for a very
long time with out it being stored propper ,then chances are ,that the carb internals are dried up causing it not
to pump the fuel!
 
Just posted another similar issue i had. Roughly tank #20 in my rovan 30.5cc intake bolt broke. Only spit when choked. Think junk bolt or overtightened at factory. Went from full throttle to dead.

If it has spark spray a bit of starter fluid in through the air filter and it should fire up and spit out any fuel build up.
No need to take anything apart.
Once you ascertain that it runs chuck the carby and get a Walbro 1107.
