Wazzup and welcome to LSF! I like lipos and would go with a killer rc lipo. I have a Hitec 4 charger but others will chime in soon with their preferences. I recommend Futaba and Sanwa for good transmitters. Not sure on the road tires but you will also need a kill switch.Just purchased my first RC and it’s a Rovan Baja. Just looking for a better insight of what battery and charger to upgrade, what transmitter and receiver, and some good decent road tires. Those are the first things I herd to change.

That’s a must, I just finished doing that.Make sure the screws are tight and threadlocked
No way!! I ordered my kill switch today, I’m breaking in the motor tomorrow and was gonna run it after that was done, but this made me want to wait for that kill switchI once tried "just one run" on the beach before my kill switch arrived.
Ended up in the surf.
Thanks for the feed back, yea I read that the Rovan are not the best of the best, but I am new to all this so I rather learn on this before the real money pit begins lol. The kill switch is definitely a must, I actually just ordered the killer bee today. Will it still work with a stock transmitter? I know if i had a 3 channel I can run a kill button, but what if i still ran the stock transmitter? Of course until I decide on which one to get. Defiant have some more upgrades in mind but I’m just trying to get the most important ones down then head in over to performance and all the other good stuff. So I will definitely take a look over at your previous post. Appreciate the help.Welcome to the forum, and i'm sorry to hear you bought a Rovan ! Actually i'm just teasing (I have a Rovan myself). They are a great entry level 1/5 to get a new guy started. Do NOT have high expectations for the Rovans. They are slapped together from the factory horrible. Not sure what engine you have but i'm running the CY 36cc engine and let me tell ya it's a potent screamer in top tune. I've gotten myself in a lot of trouble by hard "point and shoot" driving tactics ! I've learned that smooth acceleration and braking is better (less broken parts). I'm STILL trying to work out all the bugs with my Rovan. Like others suggested , the Killer RC safety switch https://www.killerrc.com/products/super-bee-kill-switch-car-kit is mandatory (it's saved my aZZ more than once , so in terms of saved crashes the switch has long since paid for itself. Keep a VERY close eye on your chassis, I guarantee parts will come loose and literally fall off, some will break. Do some searching under my user name and you will find more detailed Rovan info on all my experiences. If you have any specific Rovan questions PM me. Good luck have fun, and keep your Rovan out in the wide open areas ! LOL
Smart move waiting for kill switch. I lost a entire rc running without one. Mtxl's float long enough for a trip down the river. Dunno about your tx being kill switch compatible. If need be you can get a fly sky that will work for cheap, or a Futaba if you want a good one to start. That’s a must, I just finished doing that.
