Yeah, that wouldn't have helped me. Mine broke right off at the bolt hole, right down the middle. I'm going to get all alloy supports front and rear, but keep the arms plastic.

rear shock towers - that was the first thing i noticed and didn't have much hope for either! my mates baja 5b went the same way and bust shortly after buying it, when i first ran mine on a carpark, heading away from me i could see the towers bending over slightly
so i ordered an ali rear shock tower set and fitted it straight away. i've still got the stock ones should the ali towers ever bend.

Well, I'm going to install that rear brace on and hope for the best. If they still break, I'll just throw on some metal towers and call it a day.

I can tell this thing is going to be a money pit, in a good way though :) Got a box of goodies from DDM this morning. Ordered yesterday and they shipped them 17 minutes after I placed it, impressive to say the least.

Stuff to install when I get home...

Walbro 813 carb

Killer RC suspension limiting cables. Already tore up a boot when I snapped the rear tower and I'm also hoping this will help reduce the strain on the various suspension components.

Stock air filter + redneck filter. The aluminum filter housing it came with, though pretty looking, doesn't inspire confidence. It's only a single element and doesn't seem to seal very well in it's housing. Combined with the outerwear I already got, this looks to be about the best setup.

Can of PJ1 filter oil. I've always just used the little tubes of blue goo that I get from my LHS on my nitros, but that's not going to cut it with a filter of this size.

Killer RC stainless starter cable

DDM chrome starter cover, just because I like shiny stuff, bonus points for logos :)

DDM 5000mah receiver pack. Because nothing is worse than having your day cut short by dead batteries.

Killer RC kill switch with buzzer and LED

Metal rear shock brace

looking at your pix (which are nice n clear by the way!), you have a black shock brace between the two shock towers, was that plastic? mine came with a metal brace...?? since fitting the ali rear shock tower kit (which doesn't come with a brace as there's already one on the car) there's no flex at all now. i'm still awaiting for the arrival of the front tower/hub/steering set :glare:

It's metal but it only links the top holes. The new metal one I received links both the top and bottom holes in the towers so I'm hoping that will help spread the load out. If I still break towers, then it's metal ones for me.

Any one know anything about a boost bottle. I have a 30.5cc 2 speed and it is fast but you know never fast enough. I work at a hardware stoor and can get all the parts to build it for under $10 and am wondering if they work.

errr my experience of boost bottles was a complete waste of time. some people say they've got them to work (not many people though) but the majority say they're not worth the time n effort in tuning. my club went through a spate of trying them but only one car was ever slightly improved, and only just improved too. i dabbled and persevered with one some time ago but didn't get any better results, so i took it off. but you never know, you might get it to work. it's supposed to give better low end throttle and acceleration i think..?

Two evenings of wrenching and beer drinking and I got the goodies installed. The kill switch was a female dog but I've had nitro runaways that have ended badly and I'd hate to imagine the carnage if this thing got away from me.

Shock limiter cables were an easy install.

The rear shock brace was a bit interesting. I ordered the style that wraps around the tops of the towers as opposed to the flat type that just bolts onto the side. Well, I guess this style is meant for metal towers because the stock plastic ones have a plastic trim piece at the top that blocks it from going on. So out came the dremel to get rid of those and I got a perfect fit.

Walbro 813 and stock air filter went right on. I had a hell of a time getting it started for the first time but once I did it settled into a nice idle and subsequent starts were easier. Weather was crappy today so I'm hoping I'll get to run it tomorrow and get it tuned in.

Getting the redneck and outerwear on was a bit of a struggle. I was thinking an angled stack would be a nice addition but the only thing I could find was on DDM and out of stock.

More goodies on the way...

Full set of RPM arms. Won't install these until I break an arm, then I'll just do them all.
RPM front bumper
RPM roof guard
Craftwerks plug wire
Iridium plug
Smoked window set

I'm really trying to focus on improving reliability and durability with my initial round of upgrades then focus on the bling later.

I wish mine had all of that grey instead of orange... the cage and suspension

I would suggest getting some spare spurs and boots, 3rd tank ripped a drive axle boot, and stripped 2 teeth on the spur, not sure how as it didn't fully strip the teeth it still runs good and drives

Didn't get to tune the new carb yesterday. It started running like crap after a few minutes then died and wouldn't restart. Looked at all the usual culprits, tried a new plug, etc. I think I narrowed it down to the carb gasket. The new carb didn't come with one so I had to reuse the old paper one. Guess it didn't survive the move because when I was switching back to the stock carb to rule out a problem with the new one, it came off in pieces. New gaskets are on the way from DDM and I hope this cures my woes. Stocked up on some NGK Iridium plugs too because they're on sale. Ended up having to settle for fixing up the Savage from some intense bashing a couple of weeks ago and running that instead.

Thanks Lins, found the shreadstack on ebay from OBR. Going to order that too because the stock filter+outwerwear is a female dog to service with the gas tank clearance.

$194 gasket (well, $2.00 gasket, $192 worth of other stuff :) ) arrived this morning from DDM. That fixed me right up. Of course, now I have to wait until the weekend to go play. I'm sure my neighbors already appreciate me enough revving it in the garage at 9:30 at night to make sure it was working.
