We picked up a FS Monster Truck 4WD yesterday for my wife. She wanted a 4WD not a simple as she says 2WD. This is a lightly used but used truck. The owner said he has been running Bell-ray oil mix with it. My question is what if any upgrades or early fixes should be considered for this truck? One I already see is it needs a second steering servo.

Streamline,

First of all, congratulations on having a wife with an interest in the hobby! You are a lucky guy! I have an FS 4x4 1/4 scale Hummer, which is made up of mostly FS 1/5 scale MT parts! You are right about needing a second steering servo, which is easy to install! Also, you need to get the alloy upgrade steering bellcranks! The plastic ones have way too much play in them! Also, you will want to get the upgraded alloy wheel hubs and install some decent wheel bearings! Mine failed on the second tank! I replaced them with Boca Ceramic bearings, which are velvet smooth and will last a lifetime! Other than that I just put in a Killer RC kill switch! Good luck with yours! They are a great truck!

Thanks for the compliment!! I am a very luck guy......she reminds me of that every day....lol

Ya found out yesterday about the week arms with them being plastic. But other than that this is a bad machine! It feels great to put some gas in and go play for a while instead of putting gas in and go work on it for a while...lol

Here are some pictures of it so far. We are looking to get a new body with a wrap done on it of my wife's business logo.

Thanks for the info!!! I did some research on the MCD and I found were I can get the parts now! Thanks again!

I found some parts from what seems like a cool group down in Florida called imexrc. They had what I needed. The parts should be in tomorrow and with any Luck I can be back out breaking something else by tomorrow afternoon.:celebrate:

Parts came in and now I fixed the Truck and lets go play......Ooops now raining the last couple of days. Mannn :boat:

I also got some steel shock rod ends from the IMEX group. Here is there sight they seem to have good prices! http://www.imexrc.com/servlet/the-NEW!-1-fdsh-5-Scale-RTR-Cars-&-Trucks/Categories

There websight seems to be having update issues so I called this number 352-754-8522 and talked to a guy named Jeff. He told me that they have not been able to update web-sight for a while now! He told me they had about 6 sets of the shock rod ends in stock. I purchased one set plus the other stuff that all came in a few days later! So if yall are looking at something give them a call maybe they still have some! I hope it wasn't just a fluke that I got good service they have some good prices!....lol

Hey Guy's if anyone is up and sees the post I could use some help ASAp.

I had to take down the rear end of my FS MT to fix a loose part before this Sundays Parade we are in and as I got to the part I figured why not check the chunk and spider gears in the rear end. So far every thing is looking good but my spider gears feel like they could use some lubing, and hear is where Im having trouble. As you can see in the diagram there are 2 bolts holding the large gear to the housing for the spider gears! I removed the bolts but having trouble separating the two. I see in the diagram that there are 4 rods that run through both parts. Im assuming these might be holding me together! Do they have to be drove out or something? How do I get this to separate without hurting something or throwing the spider gears everywhere after I get it apart with force?

P.S. After posting this I noticed the diagram dosnt show the 2 bolts but there are 2 that held this together! And Im still not able to separate!

Grip hold of the diff housing nice and tight and smack the crownwheel with the handle of a screwdriver.
I call this technique "gentle pursuasion"
Works for me!

Ok took a fiberglass handle on a hammer but I got it and no body died in the process!!!! Thats always good....lol

Was there suppose to be grease or oil in that housing? If so I believe someone forgot!!!!

I packed lithium grease in it not so much that it was super packed but enoph that it was full and all in the gears. But when I put together it was ruff to turn even after a few forward and backward rotations. So I took out the grease and treated it like my 1//8 Losi AFT I used to have and put diff lube in it. Now it has some drag but now is smooth! I will see how well that does. I did pack the diff housing with lithium grease that should help the large gears.

What do you think about this? Should it work?

Absolutely it will work.
They must have grease,,,dry metal on metal=BAD.
Another Aussie guy on here called ,theydontwantmusic, had his FS diff get munched up,,,no doubt his had no grease either!!
