I bought a truck on eBay. Has oneil brothers 27.2 ported motor, front disc brakes, 2 speed , all metal gears ,billet gear cover, jet pro tuned pipe silenced, complete billet front and rear suspension, outerwears air and pull start* covers, wheelie bar, The motor is running great. I'm not familiar with these types of trucks. This is my problems. The two speed is not shifting. The gearing 18/44 and 20/44. I read how to adjust it but I don't know how to disassemble it. It is real slow off the line and does not wheelie. Do you think its a gearing issue? And when I dump the gas One wheel is spinning more than the other. When you hold it off the ground you can spin both wheels in the opposite direction. Is thats how its supposed to be?The front brakes work but it does not lock up when I'm driving. Rolling it around without it running it will lock up. Please shed some light on my situation. I'm frustrated but I'm love with this monster

the standard FG diff will only spin both in a straight line or on loose surface, not like the HPI's and other stuff. You can get them a bit tighter by using thicker grease etc but it will always load up on one wheel specially when cornering.

i have no experience with 2 speeds so no help there sorry.

sounds like an awesome truck and heaps of hop ups, those hop ops however sounds like it added weight. also sounds like your tune might be off, what carby are you using? Maybe return to stock needle settings and tune from there, if its taking off from a standing start real slow it has nothing to do with the 2 speed, either clutch or engine related.

I will try to tune it up some tomorrow. How can I test the clutch? It starts off slow but once it gets going and the rpms are high its real peppy when you tap the throttle. I have no experience with an fg but all the videos I see they are really peppy. I don't know about the carb. He said it only had two tanks of gas ran through it. I can't really stretch it out wide open due the brakes not working great. Any ideas would help

ok cant you let it stand still on the spot while idling? if yes your clutch spring is ok.

if its taking off very slow (rpms low) then slowly picks up as the rpm's rise then its not the clutch shoes, if the shoes were worn the rpms would be high without the truck moving fast (slippage).

its either your tune or the two speed. 2 speeds in my opinion are very complicated and tricky to get right. if possible until you learn and understand your beast go back to a single speed set up. if the 2 speed isnt tuned right it might be trying to take off in second which puts allot of strain on the clutch shoes and the clutch bell. keep an eye on your clutch bell, if its changing colour to blue it means their is excessive heat, then you know its the gearing causing the problem.

look on the side of your carby. its should tell you what it is. chances are its a walbro, most common and best. common carby is the WT668 but WT813 and WT990 are popular these days, stock carby for FG is WT603.

chances are the previous owner ran a very rich tune to break in the motor, you will need to tune it, find out the carb and go to stock settings and make small adjustments from there, most of the time stock settings are safe and deliver excellent performance.

+1 Sper. Sounds like bad tuning & its bogging. There is a tuning guide in the engine section bud - try that & see how you get on.

Clutch is blue on the outside. The 2 speed is definitely not working. What do I need to bring it back to single speed? Should I go with the hpi 8 clutch springs? I need to get this gearing fixed asap.

This motor has alot of compression. It has a wt668b 903 carb. It's a pain to get it started. Any clue why? I set the low screw to 1 1/2. You have to pull it around 30 times to start.

I have the same problem with my 2speed ,never can have any fun until i switch back to single speed. If you are using your truck for off road ,you don't really need 2peed

You may need to replace the plug and also check your gas cap vent hole make sure its not pluged.:)

Changed the plug. Still hard to start. When you get it started and run it, it will start up in one pull. Another thing is when I was running it earlier, the coil slid down and locked on the flywheel. I took it apart and tighten down on it again. 10 minutes later the same thing. I don't know why this is happening. Any suggestions ?

Found the problem to my starting and running issues. Blown head gasket. The bolts were loose. I'm ordering a couple gaskets tonight. Im also ordering the parts for the single speed gearing. I cant find a steel 48 tooth gear on ddm or large scale. Any where else I can buy it from? What's the discount code for large-scale... I can't remember

good to hear you found the problem mate, suggest using some gasket sealant when you do the replacement, will prevent it blowing again down the line (or help stop it happening anyway).

Gaskets are on the way. Large scale does not have the set pins. I did find a mod that uses a small bolt that you can drill out the hole a little bigger. I spoke with the guy that sold me the truck. Nice guy. Offered to give me some money back. I declined. It is what it is. I fixed the brake issues. I found out how to fix the 2 speed. I know the head gasket had to be my lack of power, starting issues and tuning issues. Is it good to lock tight the head bolts or just torque them down. It's the 2 bolt head design.

What type of gear carrier are you using?

I would clean up the motor and crack it open and inspect it. Make sure nothing has gotten in the head.

Only ones I can find:

$5.00 OFF $100.00 - $174.99..............................A0001
$10.00 OFF $175.00 - $249.99..............................A0002
$15.00 OFF $250.00 - $324.99..............................A0003
$20.00 OFF $325.00 - $424.99...............................A0004

You can also try LSF or HBF and see if it gives 5%?

This is the one I use - Same as the diff gear:

I have a two speed right now. I see what you have. I have the 48t differential gear already. So I would need your carrier, the elcon layshaft and a stock clutch bell, right? I wish I Had your alloy gear plate. Mine is stock plastic.

I run a plastic spur and all other gears steel with no problems. Thats the way its been for the 3yrs Ive had it & there have been no problems with wear or damage so from my experience it works well. The quality of FG plastic is excellent. I also like to think that if something goes wrong with the drive the plastic gear will give up before my diff

Took the head off. Every thing is good. The guy didnt trim off the crankcase gasket where the head sits. The black rubber head gasket just pulled of smooth and clean. I ordered a copper .020 gasket and a green paper gasket. Which one is better? the piston is black on the top. Should I clean it and how?And should I scuff the area where the head gasket sits on the motor? Its real shiny.
