so i have seen this gone over before, but i just want some NEW info. i have always run 25:1 mix. but can we run leaner once its brokin in good? and how lean? is there a noticable diffrence? is 50:1 really safe or kinda risky..

You get only what could be considered a slight improvement from the better combustion process and cleaner burn properties. I know most here would disagree but I build numerous 2 stroke engines for all types of vehicles and for almost all the engines I build I run 40:1, our engines despite the fact that they rev higher (only by a slight amount over a race prep 250r) do not need the higher oil mix for proper lubrication. I have run my FG for a long time at 40:1 more than three gallons worth and not a problem yet, (other than the recent crap out on the carb!) I will however really impress upon you to run synthetic oil only at anything above 32:1 the lubricity of synthetic oil far supercedes dino oil. I personally prefer Royal Purple oil but, do not use it as break in oil!!! nothing will seat. Hope this helps.

thanks cable. im going to break in with 25:1, but then switch to 40:1. i think it should be ok. i have only run klotz, but they were out of stock so i picked up castrol927(race blend). the guy said it was just as good or better then klotz.

I've been running my TS engine with a 40:1 mix since last febuary. Almost a year now and no problems.

That's good!! I so far now have a gallon and a half through the MT with no problems at all at 40:1? I understand where you guys are coming from and like I stated before, I am only impressing upon on (opinionating) that the engines do not need that much lubrication. My next proof of evidence would be to take a look at the nitro world where as 10 years ago we ran 10% nitro with 17% lubrication and now most "bashers" run 30% nitro and 10% lubrication. Almost half! Many people have come to realize that there is no need for all that oil to gum up the cylinder and foul plugs. Depending on the weather and relative humidity in your area and also height above sea level you can run an even leaner mix.
