hello, now i bought a fg baja as my first ever rc car, its the 4wd baja.
the first tank it ran ok, stalled a lot but i turned up the idle a bit and that was fine.

second tank - 5 mins in it started to do funny things engine wise, and then stalled and i cannot for the life of me get it to run properly again.

if i take out the plug and clean it, it will start and run but its well smokey and i mean fire smokey almost, then it dies again and it doesn't seem happy.....

WTF??

i have left the carb settings alone from factory setup which are about 3.5 turns for the H and 4 for the L, now if i read forums it says that should be 1.5 and 1.25 from factory but if i change them to that it wont even start at all ever....

i need help please!

thanks

alex

reset to 1.5 and 1.25 as stated on the forum and change the spark plug, my leopard was like that when i got it (runnin way to rich) rest carb and changed plug and fired second pull and has never missed a beat since! ;)

charlieboy - when you say rest the carb what exactly do you mean please?
were your H and L settings that high as well? i thought RTR meant they had set it up!!!!!! guess not hey!!?

so if i wind them both right the way in then turn out 1.5 and 1.25 change the plug im good yea? will i need to readjust these after this? i am assuming i will do slightly??

turn the high and low all the way in but be carefull you don't over tighten them (just till they stop) then turn h out 1.5 and low out 1.25, change the plug then give it a run, it says to run the engine in when new but if you run these engines on low throttle for to long they foul the plug and you'll be back to a none startin engine. i was told by a guy off a different site and by a couple on this one to just run them hard strait out of the box (some will say this is wrong but it worked for me). after the engines nice and hot stop it and check the plug it should be a nice lightish brown colour, if it's black then it's to rich so you will need to lean it off a bit but only turn the neadles in very small amounts :cool2: hope that makes sence bud not good at explainin stuff :clown::clown::clown::clown:

when mine did it it prity much did the same thing then wouldn't start till i cleaned the plug, new plug in and some fine tune to the carb and i've never had a problem since ;)

ok gents thats great, i will change the plug and give it a whirl, im sure i am on the right road now after your advice, sometimes you just need to be told how its done and this is one of those times!!!!

one last thing, i only used normal unleaded petrol and 2 stroke that my mower uses which is stihl oil, maybe not the best so i have drained that out and im now about to try high octane unleaded and castrol actevo 2t oil.....

i think that better??? what do you think?

see you learn sumat new every day :clown: i've been doin mine slightly wrong :clown: cheers mud :cool2:

I always work with small adjustments because these things are very sensative to adjusments and if you use 1/4 turns you might go past its sweet spot and continue on as if you haven't found it were with 1/16th's turns theres a greater chance you will hit it on the nail :)
