I'm getting my Baja going after 5+ years sitting in my basement. Stock CY23 engine with a V1 Dominator rear pipe. Looking for a reality check on carb settings for the high jet.? I started at stock 1 3/8 and went WOT with it on a stand. Opened it up slightly to ~1 1/2 and RPMs went up. Curiously, I tried going further up to ~1 3/4 open and didn't notice a change up or down in RPMs anywherein there. Put it back to ~1 9/16. Does this sound about right?

Hopefully you didn't run it long? If so? You may have rainbow colored the bottom rod assembly. Never try to tune on bench. Must always be done under load. To many variables. Start with what is recommended than go from there. Once you get it to run right. Carefully count the turns. This will be YOUR starting point. BUT remember hot/cool temps, low/high humidity loading or not loading, elevation being high or low. All come into play. So an example would be a guy in Colorado at 6,000 + feet versus someone at see level or 50 feet above sea level will be totally different because of oxygen in air.

I was going off some DDM carb tuning instructions I found. I'd say it was WOT 3-4 seconds.

Thank you both for the input.

I use a WT1107 type carburetor, which is based on the standard values set by Taylor RC. It now spins very well and the abnormal heating has gone down.

To be clear, I wasn't looking for exact settings, just a reality check on my method (which apparently was bad) and how I ended up where I was. I took it out to a big field yesterday and think I got it good.

Out of curiosity, do Dominator pipes generally require putting the high jet more or less open compared to stock exhaust?

Normally, high jets are determined by opening a larger amount for customized pipes, and opening a smaller amount for box-shaped pipes, including genuine ones, and these decisions are made while the vehicle is running.
