Yeah i already have the 97 brake upgrade kit, it was finding just the steel disk i had trouble with.
many thanks

I have all 3 here. the 97 layshaft brake the center is worn out. I am installing the 97 upgrade metal disc on one car cuz I picked it up cheap from sharkey. and I have 4 wheel disc.

one thing I found was with 4 wheel brakes, it is less stress on the layshaft gear and doesn't seem to loosen that off as much. if I could afford it I would have rear brakes on all of them but I have 5 models to do that to so slowly and surely I will get there.

and to be fair I always use more front brakes anyway for on road.

I posted a pic of both brake types in my 5th scales thread

The bushings and the steel square are all important, if you don't's get the whole kit your other parts will wear our faster.

Old kit:New kit
fibre disc - steel disc
aluminum square holder - steel square holer
aluminum pads - brake shoe composite pads
plastic bushings - steel collar bushings

It's all important and still less than buying a few of these parts seperately.

I agree. I got the steel set from sharkey. I was going to order a new epoxy disc for the 97 set $15, and then sharkey went hydraulic brakes so offered me this... he also now offered me a set of front and rear cable disc brakes from his dad since he's going hydros too... I don't mind cables. I don't think this steel set has as much stopping power than the epoxy set but maybe the brake pads are dirty or oily. ran out of brake clean last night doing the semi rebuild so have to get some more to test this out
