tracks still underwater but i got a small video in the parking lot. running 8s with 18T pinion 2028 motor. truck is all stock except for 15,000 center diff oil

havnt tested it yet on a track which is underwater from a broken pipe.
but blasting up and down the street until i get bored 8minutes?? .has never taken more than 3000mah with an 8000 pack.

that sounds like a plan. gonna be a while before it comes out and then the dredded first run problems with it.and no parts etc

you can go from gas to electric on the same truck in a half hour if you wanna go that route. its such a toss up.

track finally dried out. a little too much lol.

Jumps and lands very well.
Is there much difference once loaded with motor and batteries, in the gross weight?
Still seems to bottom very easily on the jumps.
Still got to say it; not the same being so big and so (relatively) silent!

Makes a good case for itself just the same.

its a few pounds lighter than my gas truck. suspension is all stock still. diffs are 15,000ft center and rear.

all you brushless experts, i have a gearing question?
seems geared 18T pinion on the street motor ran cool on a 45 degree day dragracing back and forth and using a lot of brake
geared 17T on a dusty track motor ran too hot after 12 minutes.using barelly any brake. the 17T is like 46MPG without any tire ballooning and i doubt i get that fast on a 200 foot straight. i was thinking trying a 16t but some guys think the motor needs a load and going back up to 18 would be better.

Only from E-Maxx experience, from what I've understood in the past, you decrease the teeth - let the motor run faster for the same road speed.
If you increase the teeth, as you say, you put more load on the motor, which would/should make it run hotter.
See what others have to say.

this is true to a point. over rev can cause heat aswell. there is a happy medium that needs met. the only way you will find it is to try all the pinions and test them. the reason you didnt get hot on the street is you were on the throttle wot and steady. offroad is constant on off throttle and also moving a bit slower so less cooling air is a factor aswell. imo, i think the 16 tooth will help in your situation. test em and let us know. i used to race 1/8th e buggy but no longer run anything electric besides some play stuff. others here will be able to benefit from your findings though.

iits wheel spin causing the heat. i ran a test at same track and feathered the throttle to aviod wheel spin. i ran 17 minutes instead of 12 and motor was 150 instead of 200. the track hasnt been used all winter and has silt on it with no traction. all that wheel spin ( although fun) was heating up everything. center diff was 180 and this test was 120.
im going to try a 16T but ill wait a few weeks for the track to get rebuilt for the summer.

What is considered the danger zone for your motor/esc as far as temps are concerned?

170 degrees F is about it.
im checked out my gearing mathmatically and i was geared for like 60 MPH!
im down to a 16t pinion and things are much happier now. still too fast for the 200 foot straight never stop spinning if i go full throttle.
the track is being redone for the summer and will be watered and have traction so im going to wait and see. but the 16 pinion was 50 degrees cooler than the 18.
