Hi everyone. I’m very new to this whole forum thing so I guess I’ll explain what’s goin on. I have the Losi 1/5 scale dune buggy. It has spark air and fuel but I won’t start. My uncle had it before he passed away and has changed the stock exhaust to that crazy loud exhaust pipe. Idk if he got it started or not. Few years pass and I get this machine I get it started I’m breaking it in for about 15 min and stops and can’t get it back started again. I have the carburetor off to clean it but it looks brand new and still clean but again it had bad fuel in it for idk how many years. I hope one of y’all can help me my father would really like to see his late brothers machine run, with all the hype my uncle gave us about it. Thank you

First thing first is state where you live as there might be a member just down the street to help.

If it has Spark, Air and Fuel it should start at least Pop. Cheapest 1st try is a new plug. If not then i would blow the Carb apart cause no matter where you live a month of fuel sitting in the carb is no bueno.

Sorry if it takes me a min to reply I’m at work. So I did 30-1 gas oil mix due to high altitude
So maybe just use carb cleaner then blow it out. Spark plug is new but now the fap isn’t very wide is it? And maybe a stupid question but how would you check to see if it has air as in spark air and fuel.

Sorry too far for me.

Fuel Ratio has no real bearing on altitude but 30:1 is good.

Even if a new plug check the gap. 50% are off from my experience. Being likely a Losi DBXL V1 i would gap the plug to 0.029 in.

Because fuel is IMO the most important, a carb clean at my garage is a full tear down, sonic clean and replace any and all gaskets. Too much headache from a simple air leak. A simple spray or even soak in carb cleaner with a low psi air blast is a 50% job done but works for some.

NO question asked is stupid. Just the opposite. Since it Sat for a while i would do the following:
1. Fuel - Start with the fuel/carb as that will be the time consuming part. Clean carb, Clean Fuel tank, replace fuel lines, replace Clunk Fuel Filter and carb gasket. When you prime the carb you will know if you have fuel to it or not. New gas and new oil. The ports on these carbs are very small so a good clean is worth it.

2. Carb Settings - If you have the manual follow the recommended settings on the Low-High Needles. I a guessing 1 turn out on the low and 1.25 on the High for a base setting.

3. Spark - Pull the Pull starter and check the coil/flywheel. It may be rusted, dirty or ??. If you have to clean it then remember to re-gap the coil. Business card works for a gauge. Install the plug in the Coil (Not in the motor), hold it to the metal head and give it a few pulls of the starter. Should spark if all is good.

4. Air - If the first two aren't correct it won't matter if it gets air or not. Pull the filter off all together. Will likely need a clean and or replace anyway.

Any corrections please do so as i like to learn myself.

Ok thanks everyone I got it running and broken in which felt nice and exciting but now I went to take it out and my controller just stopped working with the car and I don’t understand the binding thing
