Got a delivery from the US late last week.

Bought myself a 2010 Traxxas Platinum Slash 4WD. Comes with no radio or receiver and a clear body. The platinum has a few upgrades over the standard, mainly a few alloy upgrades.

Un-opened box, savouring the moment

Kit comes with tape for windscreen and side mirrors. ive added to bits down the centre for some stripes. Yes I know the lines arnt perfect or even close to it. im not going to be pedantic as this thing is going to get abused from day 1 and the body is going to cop the brunt of it so no point doing a showroom paint job in my opinion (plus I don't have the patientce or skill to do any better.

Hi m8 i see you bought another toy lol
Looks good cant wait to see it after paint... ENJOY;)

cheers fellas, as for size don't know, ill compare when I bring it home, these were taken at a mates place, ive got the old 2WD slash so easy to compare size. i was so happy with my 2WD that I had to get the 4WD version :D

Ok finsihed the paint and applied all the decals last night. also made up a traxxas to deans wiring adaptor, that way by not changing the wiring on the ESC to deans the warranty stays intact!

Here's some pics, as you can tell its not perfect but im happy with how it came out. I never intended for it to be perfect because this thing is going to get bashed pretty hard, plus I don't have the patientce to do a better job LOL.

That looks cool mate sometimes less is more meaning a simple but great paint job and not too many stickers well done ENJOY!

thanks troy, funny you should mention that, the sticker packs that came with the slash hare massive, ive got 2 whole pages left, with literally over 100 left. don't want to put anymore on.

quite happy with how it turned out.

now to see how long the body lasts when I start bashing with it

Im not really a fan of stickers i think some people get carried away with em, but if you applied just the right amount of stickers it looks much better
just my opinion

decided to clean the slash body last night, so sprayed on some ct18 and let it soak for a couple of minutes and then hit it with the hose, on spray not stream.

mud and dirt came off easy enough but discovered as I was trying it some of the paid has come off where the side protectors are towards the rear centre of the body.

not happy! ive only run one lipo through this on flat bashing!

It makes it very tempting to paint shells with water based house paint.....lay it on nice and thick....then if you need to repaint later just soak it in the bath full of hot water and peel it off.....
Plus you can get 250ml sample pots for about $5.....all the colours you can think of.....except for metallics and pearls..

true that outtaluck, just hoping it would stay pristine for more than one tank LOL!

i bought tamiya paint from a locall hobby shop, thinking the better the quality the more durable, maybe thats the case but either I didnt go thick enough or the paint aint nothing special.

either way its a basher so I don't want to make too big a deal out of it.

bought the slash with me to work today, crap weather on weekend so might take it for a bush at lunch :D

tamiya paint is good, secret to a good paint job is to wash the body with warm water and soap (some sand body before paint) spray several small layers using a hairdryer in between coats until fully covered, if you go to thick it actually weakens the paint and causes it to peel and flake so less paint the better .........

yeah I did the warm soapy water wash before paint, did the hair drier inbetween coats (only did two coats of the white and two of for the stripes)

just finished my lunch break at work, took the slash to park down the road, they got a good playground with tan bark, so used the epquipment as corner markets and marked out a little track.

has an absolute ball! love the rooster tails and the sideways action. I know the bfg's arnt good tires but with 4wd its very controllable.

ran 2 lipo's through it, let both hit lvc, after the second battery the motor was damn hot, didnt have my temp gun with me but at a guess i would say easily over 85 deg c. ill have to take the temp gun with me next time. I didnt give it a cool down between lipo's either.

you put the coats on to thick, done right it should never cover in two coats, it would be still transparent! should of could of done several coats oh not to worrie as you said its getting bashed anyway
Troy

thanks troy but I still want to learn for next time, so far I know now to do several more coats and your telling me don't make the coats thick?

Definitely +1 on that.
You won't have much of a problem, or there again you might, if you're in aircon.
I read somewhere that to get a nice even and quick covering of a body, and to limit drips / runs, it's best to WARM the body just before painting.

If you want the PAINT to spread very thinly, then warm the paint.
