Spur Gear Cover Question

I am currently building one of my Baja's to run strictly on road just to go fast. My question is: do I really need to run the spur gear cover in this application?

Would help keep any little stones or anything from getting in between the gears, but no not really.

No you don't, I don't run a cover on any of my bajas and they are all offroad. But I also run blackbone gears

On my reed 34 with 19/55 gears i run a cover coz it fits ?? my other 2 bajas I don't run covers coz they don't fit coz the pinion is too big......never had a problem either way??

as above, not needed really ,
i have three bajas at moment and only one has a sour cover fitted, and that one has a pcsc fitted ,other two are steel gears,
as for sand, if ya mean general dusty on road sand then it don't need one fitted,
if ya mean running on a beach then thats a different story, if i was running on a beach i would run one,or try to run one if i could get one to fit with gearing used,

I was thinking that it would dissipate the heat build up on the gears if I just took it off and let the air hit it when I am running.

Its thin plastic that isnt tightly sealed, shouldnt be much heat retaining ability in the cover. Not enough to worry about it at any rate.
