Hi guys ran my 32cc rovan in sand today and the little spring loaded lever type things that the starter engages on the fly wheel bracket Get stuck and starter won't engage. I run outerwear covers but sand still gets in ,any tricks to stop this happening. Thanks.

only way if you run in sand mate is pull the starter off after every bash and give it a blow out with compressed air,
or strip/ clean/ and use a little dry lube on the pawls,
never use wet grease on the pawls cos then there gonna start sticking quicker,

OK thanks but any suggestions to keep it out as I was on the beach every time I stopped the engine I had to pull starter off and clean it.

Sand is nearly impossible to keep out. Seal everything up the best you can and be prepared to clean it out. Fine mesh can be use around the engine to help, but it will also block some airflow. You could get en enclosed lazy start system, but again you'll be loosing a lot of cooling air into the fan. Kinda a catch 22.

An air compressor is your best friend for cleaning a rig after running in sand, you'll be surprised how much comes out that you can't see.
