Steering servo almost dead

Well after my braking thread and mentioning my steering servo was weak its only gotten weaker by the minute. I have a half a tank in the truck and it will not turn the wheels on the ground unless the truck is moving. I want to swap it but need a pure drop in solution. If I can get away with the stock servo arm all the better. I would rather swap the servo and pop everything back on. I have no parts with the truck as I lost all of them when I put it in storage so any servo adapters etc that may have come with it are likely long gone (I have one box that held my stock radio and extra filters, etc. they may be in there but I am not sure). I am running a 6v 5000 mah venom pack right now and just upgraded my throttle servo to a 6v unit. I had no real plans to go HV but if I might as well buy a HV steering servo and run it till I go HV on the throttle I can justify that. I had intended to buy a SV-0236MG but wanted some recommendations. I don't have the time to mod anything too complicated at the moment and just want enjoy running a truck that has been sitting for a long time.


Any opinions or suggestions?

The throttle servo might be drawing or taking the power from the steering ,try unplugging the throttle an test the steering
again to see!

I am not sure though an I maybe wrong ,but it is worth a check!.... :unsure:
 
Its the stock servo which has been sitting for years. The stock throttle servo was pretty weak when I got everything charged up and plugged back in so I replaced it. If it is drawing power from steering whats my solution? My throttle is a new 5645 so I doubt its an issue of HV servo competing with a LV servo since they are both 6v servos. If there is a solution beyond changing it out I am happy to try it. In any case I decided to swap my Spek receiver in there for a new Futaba since I already upgraded my Losi. I'll run Futaba in all my 5th scales and Spek in the smaller electrics.

I run this Savox in my Baja SV-0236MG . Seems ok.
 
Ordered it along with a new alloy 15T servo arm for the Baja. Really surprised at how weak the stock servos became just sitting in storage. They didn't really last 1 tank before they started getting weak and slow.

I know it. After my last doctors appointment I sat in the car and came to the realization that "I am not the man I used to be, lol!" I may crack my throttle servo open and take a look at the internals. My Losi servos are still super strong and both trucks were stored together. Anyway, looking forward to the new setup once it comes in.
 
I pulled it open. I think the heat swelled up the plastic bearing. Internals looked great and the white grease looked new. The main servo gear was super stiff until I oiled it. I have no idea if the motor was weak or if the bearings were sticky.
 
I think I'm having steering servo failure too in my 5T 2.0. Last time I ran it I noticed the same thing, tires would barely turn when sitting on the ground but if I lifed the front end they would turn fine. My new Killer RC 6000mah battery was down to around 65% charge but I think it should have still been strong enough to power the servo. I'll have to see what happens with a fully charged battery and determine if the servo is still weak.
 
So I installed my new servo today and the factory 15t servo arm didn’t want to fit. I got it on but it is not totally inserted onto the servo gear. My new one was backordered so I cancelled it and reordered an in stock one from DDM. Is it normal for the servo gear depth to be so shallow in the stock arm? I don’t want to force it any more but would like to run while I wait for the new one. My concern is that I’ll strip something if I do.
 
I pulled the arm to take a closer look before I put it in the car. It just seems the stock arm isn't as deep as the ones that come with the Savox. I'll swap everything out again once I get my new radio box. I have some parts coming anyway so I'll just clean it all up later but for now I don't feel concerned driving it. The factory arm fits about halfway down the servo gear before it bottoms out.
