when i went to the gas station the other day, there was a guy working on the gas pump islands. he had the covers off the pumps so i started asking questions. he said few people will tell you how this works. when you buy gas and press the button to select the grade of gas you want--- there are 3 manifolds in the pump. push the button for regular- one manifold opens to pull fuel out of the regular tank. push the mid grade button and two manifolds open -- its a mixture of premum and regular. push the premum button and one manifold opens to pull fuel out of the premum tank. If you go to a gas station that sells one grade of non- ethanol gas, its not mixed with regular to make mid-grade gas.-- seprate system. there is one gas filter for all grades of gas, it looks like a oil filter for a 350 chevy. some gas stations have a larger filter on the gas hose near the pump island. As for measuring octane--- the rm-+ 2 method is measured with a varabile compression single cyclnder engine. it runs at 600 rpm.

The most wear prone parts in our carbs is the needle valve and the diaphram under the primer bulb plate. - the needle valve has a viton tip. the diaphram is rubber over silk. gasoline with ethanol WILL wear these parts out faster than non ethanol gasoline. Ethanol will harden the rubber diaphram and this will cause it to not respond as quickly- less flexable. --- Its best to avoid gas-ethonal fuel and octane boosters that have powerful solvents- acetone- methanol- ect-ect. I NEVER spray carb cleaner on- or in my Walbro for this same reason. Thanks for reading this. -- Alfred.

That is cool info on the gas station pumps. I would have never thought that the pump mixes the fuels.

more gas trivia

Ya gotta be careful buying gas in western Arizona. Califorina has been caught useing Arizona as a place to get rid of its bad gasoline in the past. Stations in Quartsite Arizona have been caught selling Pemix to the snowbirds also. I found out the hard way rideing dirt bike around Quartsite- way back in a canyon. Hi-point Pro gp boots are not built to walk in. Damm good thing I had hiking boots in my back pack. about a 20 mile walk.

This is why I use 93 octane it's believed to have no ethanol in it around my way anyways....
