Okay, so I went from desperately needing guidance on whether or not to buy a used Losi 5ive T, to buying it and now wanting to fix the mistakes, damage, and general wear and tear on it. First things first, I wanted to get some pics of its current state loaded up here for you 5ive veterans to check out and start making suggestions. I am going to start with the wheels since they are probably the easiest and fastest. I stopped off tonight and bought a box of RIT black dye, and to my wife's displeasure, dyed the wheels in one of her pots. Tomorrow starts the front to back tear down.

(And yes, they did come out "blackity black black")

Well let's see some pictures lol,you never use the wife's dishes for your projects!lmao but I'm sure at some point we all have done it!!only difference is,I learned my lesson!!good luck:-)

The stock fuel line should go, it causes mixture issues due to air leaks. The black line is horrible....That front bumper must have taken a heck of a hit, as mine hasn't failed yet. You have aftermarket springs on it, so the saggy ride height has probably been fixed already. I would replace just the front hood portion of the body and paint to match as the rest looks pretty good still....maybe use a wrap to get it pretty if you like...they have many different themed ones around for sale for $70 or so. A screw and bolt kit is a great thing to have as the 5ive-T bolts are weird lengths and sizes...My .02

Here's the pics posted up now that I am actually on my laptop again...

Not sure if you can see this, it almost looks like the rear shock tower is bent forward a little bit...if it is, it's only a little bit.

The wheels look a lot better black vs the maroonish color. I will be throwing on some Hostile beadlocks to replace the chewed up ones on it now.

Any recommendations on fuel line or bumper/skid plates? It came with the stock springs in the box, I actually need to go through the shocks. It bottoms out even dropped from a foot and a half. No idea what weight, or what type oil is in them at the moment. How it came to me looked like the shocks needed waay more pre-load on the springs. I will most likely get a rebuild kit, whether I need it or not, and replace the oil with Lucas silicone oil. At least then I will know for sure what's in them.
With the difference in weight, drive train, and shock size, I am kinda lost on what weights to put in the shocks. I will be running track (loose/semi-pack) and maybe 4-5 feet air jumps.

It came with a DX2E tx/rx, and two of the 3300 (stock RXs) still in the boxes. Does not have any of the telemetry sensors though. Kind of wanting at least the temp and rx batt sensors. May have to price them out. It didn't come with the stock rx batt, but did come with a @Killer RC 7200 RX LiPo. I didn't know that the stock servos would handle that voltage. Brings to mind another thing I need to buy though...Killer RC kill switch...geeze...watching the tally going up.

I guess the investment to have a dependable set up is worth it though... I learned a long time ago in RC, you pretty well get what you pay for.

The stock bumper is pretty stout. I haven't broke mine yet.....The fuel line you are looking for is called Tygon 1/4 in. O.D. for the fuel inlet and 3/16 in. O.D. for the fuel return line. It is stocked at almost all small engine shops and is used extensively in chainsaws, lawn mowers, and even atv's, personal watercraft etc......

I have some tygon line...I guess I'm good there...thinking that if the stock bumpers are normally that stout, I may just go with the Losi. I appreciate the help. I ordered the body parts last night...holy crow that was hard to do...hopefully worth it. I went ahead and ordered a whole new body since each piece was coming unpainted, I now just have to decide what colors I'm going with.

Looks pretty good. I wouldn't worry about the temp and battery sensors. The whole telemetry system is kinda sketchy and gimmicky, IMO.

We have fuel line here

And here's a video on how to charge that Killer RC 7200mAh LiPo. (Which is an awesome battery, BTW)

Hey Kent, what's the latest on the battery upgrade for the DBXL? New box and stuff, hit me up, if you have them instock now send me one with the biggest battery your going to make for it. pay pal me [email protected]

The stock oil is 30 or 35 weight in all 4 per the manual and a revision B, I would suggest the 40 weight in at least the rears. This is what I used when my rear shock exploded from no thread lock on the piston nut:
http://www.largescalerc.com/74025-LosiSiliconeShockOil40wt4oz.aspx
1 -4 oz. bottle fills all 4 shocks.
I was happy with the 30 wt. in the front, but the rears needed stiffening up to 40 wt. for bashing and some pretty big air. Any thicker and you might risk bending or snapping shock shafts.....I also swapped the rear blue springs for red and set ride height at arms level, and it bottoms out, only occasionally, which is ideal to use all the travel...

Kent, I guess thinking about it, with the Killer on it, I really don't need to worry about the battery telemetry...which is the only one I was really concerned with. Also, out of curiosity, what kind of run times have been reported with the 7200 on stock servos? Have to say, it gives me a lot of confidence on the life of it being rated so high.

Revo, Thanks for the oil weight info, I will have to try a the 35 or maybe 40 in the rears...I may try both before I have to really have it dialed in for Power Jam. Better yet, hopefully I can try both set ups at the track on a practice day. Anything else you guys recommend? I have the TR chassis braces ordered, and have been eyeing a few things from Hostile that are on Rob's old truck. The tires on it currently are somehow "magically" like new still. Just wondering if anyone's had better luck with others.
Also started eyeing a big bore head kit from ESP...my buddy swears by the 29.5 "wild child" though...still pretty open for power plant options if anyone has input. Thanks again guys...this addiction (hobby) would be a lot less fun, and a lot more expensive without guys like you helping me out.

Just wanna put my two cents in here lol, jay,as far as power plant I only ran the stock 26cc for a few months in the winter, nothing really wrong with it with the right carb, pipe, and tuning..but to be competitive at the track I now run the OBR widow maker,it's a 9.7 horse motor...the thing is sick and I swear by OBR engines..but that's just my opinion..there all pretty good but the thing you should look for when buying one is make sure parts will always be available..you certainly don't wanna buy something and then not be able to buy parts for a rebuild or to freshen up..just make sure buddy..and hey,we are all r/c junkies lol her to help eachother out!!i have found an awesome group of guys here and they really know there stuff..I'm learning new things all the time..good luck..keep us updated

Git'er running and beat it like it owes you money! Congrats on the new hole in your wallet. I just installed Bartalone front and rear skids on mine, reasonably priced for something that's going to get torn up. Outerwears are a good idea on the pull start and crank case, they take no time to load up with grass. Davesmotors has them on sale today if you can catch it. I have the ESP ported 29cc 2 bolt with the stock carb and pipe but a TGN short stack filter and velocity stack for right now. I haven't really tuned on the engine, I lost a clutch shoe on my 2nd bashing tank. The Losi parts seem durable to me so far. TGN distributing is a good place for parts.I would say most important is get ready to have fun!

Day off tomorrow...got fuel and charged batteries tonight...I plan on finding a weak spot tomorrow...if there is one, trust me...where I'm running this thing tomorrow, I'll find it.

Can't agree with Bryant more, I'm running a Widowmaker 38 with the Victory pipe, the best addition to it is the Turtle Air filter system with the baja filter elements, it takes in a ton of air and the filter is out of the front wheel blast, ran all winter in snow and ice with no problems, the 2 5ive,s have it and so does the DBXL, The Other 2 Mills Are OBR 30.5 Reed cases, the Widowmaker is as sick as it gets and the first time I've ever had to wear ear plugs, the pipe is unsilenced and when it's up in the power band it makes this sound I've never heard, just drills a hole in my head, the neighbors just love it.

I will do what I can as far as video goes...may have to recruit some of my buddies to go with me...most of them have 9-5 jobs though...not everyone is rewarded with 48 hours off for every 24 worked...lol.

I am thinking about bringing some earplugs myself...the problem I'm running into is, I love the sound, but it is SO loud that I am worried about it restricting places I can run. Even now, a few of us run in a large gravel lot at a park behind one of my buddies houses...they always draw a crowd, and it's usually lots of kids. I want to find the happy medium for decibel level without a huge loss in power.

Quick edit: TGN just got a lot of my money...I will be throwing up a list of what I got, or maybe just waiting until it gets here to post up pics of it all installed. They are out of stock on the whole body kits though hopefully they'll get some in soon. I was on there shopping around, thinking "man, they have really good prices"...then went to the check out and once I updated my quantities, it rang up free shipping. That's on every US order too...just found my new favorite online shop.

Well, sadly I did not get to really run it Friday.

To make up for that small travesty, a buddy of mine and I decided to make the 2 1/2 hour trip to LargeScaleRC.com or Innovative Hobby Products Inc. in Monon, In. Well well worth the trip. So much so, we have decided to make it a monthly trip. For anyone that hasn't been there, they have 5 permanent fifth scale tracks, the absolute largest hobby shop I have ever set foot in, and we had the good fortune of meeting the owner who not only stayed open late for us, actually re-opened for us when we needed additional parts.
Imagine the excitement of Christmas as a kid mixed with the "I want" factor of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders...on second thought, a monthly trip up there could get real expensive real fast.
