I had an SS model a few years back which was great fun for the few months I had but as is often the case, sold it to fund other projects at the time

Fast forward to now and I fancy getting one as I recently sold my Traxxas UDR and would like something large scale for off road use to compliment the Porsche I have.

There’s a tidy looking 2.0 RTR for sale on a certain auction site but I think the price is a little high even if it comes boxed. It has a few minor upgrades but is largely stock.

It does have the option to offer. What’s a sensible price for a decent one? They seem to vary
I’d prefer to get one like this rather than one that’s been completely modified as the mods may not be to my taste.
I’ll probably just stick a pipe on it and fit an alloy clutch carrier as per my last one and leave as is.

So I actually sent it to everyone in my phonebook. 2 days later it was gone, sold? F'in creepy!.... When I first gleamed I said "hey an old fashion CL escort ad yey!" click on the link and it's a used doll! You just can't make this stuff up.

I just picked up a 2.0 rtr with turtle shock braces/plates/clutch system with a 34cc KM motor with a victory pipe on it, but a 29.5cc OBR reed motor disassembled in a box for 450. Freed the stuck ring off, has enough compression that I can pick the car up by the pull rope.... it'll run!

Good deals can be had, just gotta analyze what you're getting value wise. This one sold for about the cost of the turtle parts on it new, forget the OBR motor. I knew it would be a good starting point for a build, and after a bottle of degreaser it has cleaned up, and will be a good runner I think, either with the 34 or the the 29.5(which is my preference....not going to get in to the motor size argument, that has been blazing for more than a decade, and we all have our own opinions).

Don't be scared to pick up something dirty but serviceable..... you can get a helluva good deal.

thanks for all the responses guys.

I certainly don`t mind getting my hands dirty and going over a car. As long as its not in need of too much it`ll be fine.

Heres the link. I wasn`t sure if i could share the link its been so long since i`ve been on the forum.

See what you guys think. I`m based in the UK so no worries of import costs etc

I have no idea what prices are like in the UK. It's a nice looking actual HPI (I don't have a problem with the clones, they're why I can still get stuff for the car I like ten years after I sold mine, but after a week Elbow deep in a Rovan "all metal" car I built for someone else, and then my own HPI.... there are some quality differences), but I don't know what upgrades it has. See if he'll show you the "box of spare parts"....might give you some ideas. Just my .02$

My preference was for a genuine HPI rather than a clone.
nothing against them - I have no personal experience myself but I try and stick to the buy cheap buy twice view.
Agreed the clones are keeping the buggies alive though which is great.
I’ve also like the colouring of the 2.0 version with the blue. For me it was the nicest looking model and I even considered purchasing the body set for my old baja when I had it.
The offer price I have been sent is very appealing so I might have a think.
Thanks for the feedback ?

Have you considered looking on RCModelz website at a new Baja, preferably a KM one, they start at £400 for a KM001 with a 29cc engine. They have plenty of Rovan's on there too starting at same price with more options.

Was just a thought, instead of buying someone else's problems.
