Well, fed up as I was with the (lack of) grip, I got some DDM Kold Kutters and screwed them into the tyres.
This was actually my first run since upgrading the steering and brakes, but the fun was on the (lunar surface-like) hardended ice / snow - GREAT FUN!! :clown::clown:
Only ran her for 10 minutes as I was in shorts and sandals!!
Hopefully when the missus comes out of hibernation I may take some more photos with roosters!
Don't think I lost any screws - and will have to cheack as these will definitely puncture a real tyre, eventually!!
In doing this I also found out POSSIBLY why I was doing so many impromptu donuts. I remember Bigger the Better (I think) saying all trucks come with 2 Hard, 2 Medium compound tyres when I stated I had 4 hard.
Let's put it this way, I bought this 'used' and the PLONKER who screwed it together can't bloody read!! :nono:
If you look at my truck on one side you'd reckon it had 4 Hards on, if you look from the OTHER side, you'd reckon it had 4 Medium on - 'nough said!!
2x Hard on one side (handed glued tyres remember), 2 Medium on the other.
They're all studded now!! :clown::cool2::clown:

Nice job on the screws. Di you use the small duct (sheet metal) screws? They really work well and you can remove them in the summer without damage. I can say the Rampage tires might be a good fit for winter driving. I have not had a chance to get it out in the snow but may try to get some video this Sunday.

Yeah, Caci did a brilliant job. :)
Don't like the idea of taking it out with the shell on, but it's a MUST DO as it looks so good.
My problem, as Hyperpete and Pablo with testify is that I don't do part throttle!!
With the snow and ice, and the lunar surface full throttle was the only way - EXCELLENT!! :clown::clown:
With those studs in it was - generally - blasting great without problem (and steering / braking hence why I put them in the fronts also) was the way to go - brilliant!

Thanks guys.
A few photos.
Screws? Basically whatever DDM threw at me, but on the pack they're listed as '5/8" V-cut precision edge ice racing screws, Pro Series' by Kold Kutter.
54 / tyre on the back (= 108) + 36 / tyre on the front (=72), thus 180 total.
I used my 1mm hex wrench to 'reamer' a hole, then screwed them in. Started last night, and targeting today I was up until 03h, finishing 3 wheels, then the 4th before this morning's blast. When it's taking 2-3 minutes / screw, it doesn't take much extra to line them up!!
A few more photos - blame the wife for the (lack of!!) quality :clown:
Just back from Pizza Hut and Tescos !!
Wife seemed to enjoy it also. Ed (my son) agrees with Voo - TOO LOUD!!

Nice truck Atom, very nice. You said about your tyres you had four hard on's?? I'd be lucky to get one now!:clown::clown::clown::blush::blush:
J.

LMAO

Atom, how does it handle in the snow? Do you feel the tires biting allot more? Also, will you be able to take the screws out for the summer or did the screws penetrate all the way through?

Chris

Truck's REALLY digging in well in the snow and ice - couldn't get close to that in the dry before. VERY BIG DIFFERENCE.
It's dug a few trenches here and there, but generally I've only assisted it perhaps 5 times in 20 minutes' running, and no tumbles (so far)!

For the screws, the head's sticking out 4mm, so will probably keep this set-up at least as an 'option' for softer terrain anyway.
I wasn't happy with the lack of grip before anyway and was looking at replacing them, so these wheels have become useful again.
Screws would probably have gone through as the thread is a good 15mm (hence the 5/8" reference). I reamered through the tyre anyway with my 'Dynamite' 1mm hex wrench.
Voo it's 2 H's, 2M's, but agreed 1H would be an achievement at the moment :clown:

Basically, it's been great fun, and will continue tomorrow - neighbours don't mind (one has 4 motorbikes anyway!!) and nobody's going anywhere in a hurry other than 'the Thunder'. Loud it is, and it's great. I wait till after 11AM, and cut off by 4ish for a 'noise window'.

Those are great. They are ice bites for ice racing from the sounds of it. Could go to the pond and race on the ice. They are sharp to bite the ice. Keep them off the gravel or driveway.. I love it loud but I think its louder the colder it gets.

Nice!!

yea al, you don,t do part throttle mate , i,ve only ever seen one 5th scale do a front flip and that was you,:clown::clown:

Man that shell is SWEEEEEEEEEEEET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like your havin a ton of fun in the snow matey !!
Those studs look awesome. Might consider that myself. Ive seen some pics of the hostile MX tires ive got with a stud like that screwed into each knobble. Now that would make a PROPER mess of the "Hallowed Ground" at Caldies !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :clown: :clown: :clown:

Hallowed 'beneath the stands' ground you mean? !! :)
I've actually got through the snow AND ICE doing hundreds (seemed that way anyway, wasn't counting!) of donuts and can see some of the driveway in places - just my contribution to the local community - most have double glazing anyway!! :clown::clown::clown:
Lost one or other of the rear wheels - well came off anyway - with all of the spinning. Was planning on replacing the nuts. Have opened and closed perhaps 100x since I bought it.
Definitely see what BtB was saying about where to use it. Calderstones and Otterspool would be perfect! Soft ground, but stay off the gravel. Don't want to wear out the studs too quickly!! :clown:
Love it when both wheels are digging in and throwing roosters.
Hope I haven't over-revved it too much :(:clown:
Al.
