yeah i picked it up from my old man last night, but for me hot to touch is around 65 c and burn the fingers is 90 c and thats around 200 f to hot by traxxas standards, but ill get some readings with the temp gun

took the merv out to the local swimming hole to have a go on the dirt with 3s lipos but after running for half a battery pack the merv cut power due to the thermal protection kicking in, so i ended up going back to 2s and had a bit of a run even with the 21t pinion on 2s lipo it still goes very well, thermal shut down didnt happen on the 2s lipo, just the 3s lipo today it was around 35 degree,s.

some more hobby king stuff turned up in the mail on friday, 10 pairs of bannana plugs and some 14 awg wire to make up some charge leads, 2 x 3s to 6s charge harnesses i didnt realy need them but i can use them to charge 2 x 3s lipos as one 6s pack they where under $2 usd each so i thought ill get a couple ill give my old man one after i swap the xt60 connector for a traxxas connector, some more xt60 to traxxas connectors for our parrallel charging boards and hobby clamp holder not sure of the name, im going to see if it will help me hold things im soldering it was only $2.40 usd so worth a shot.

i decided not to put traxxas female plugs on the 2 x 3s charge harness, so i put 4mm male bullet connectors on instead so they can be plugges straight into the charger.

I really like it, great for soldering, it was great yesterday for soldering the bullet conectors on the charge harnesses, it wasn't any good for the traxxas main charge lead I made my old man, but I only had 2 arms on it, I've put the third on it now. My grand father had one when I was a kid we used to do projects with it, locally they are over 25 bucks and a 80 mile round trip, but this one was $2.26 usd pluss post, one of the clamps for the alligator clips was stripped but it was a easy fix, if you get a chance check them out on the hobby king website they say they are a must have for bomb making and for the rc guys lols

this is stuff i used to make up 3 or 4 years ago when i flew ep helie,s but since you can now buy these from hobby king for under $2 usd its much cheaper to buy it ready made, then to buy all the parts and make them your self, i didnt ready need this one as i can use the parrallel charging board but i thought ill give them ago, they work well, hobby king say you can charge with it from 0.1 to 15 amp but since your charging through the ballancing leads i would limet the charge to a few apms tops to play it safe, and since this is a series charge lead/harness you only use the charge rate from one of the 3s batteries and charge as a 6s lipo, meaning if your batteries are 3s 11.1v 1800mah your work the charge rate out from one 1800 mah battery e.g 1c charge is 1.8amps 2c charge is 3.6 amps but charge both together as one 6s 1800mah lipo, where the parrallel charging board your would figer it out as 2 x 1800 mah you would add the mah rationg to gether, so 3600 mah and then figer then charge rate out as 1c 3.6amp charger or 2c charge rate as 7.2amps, the parrallel charging would be faster, but the series will still be quicker then charging then one by one since you have doubled the voltage of the charge if that all makes sense.

it was $2.23 usd but shipping was $9 usd, but that shipping price included the red and black wire, 2 x 6s charge harnesses, 3 x xt60 to traxxas adasptors and 20 x 4mm bullet connectors, so i though the price and postage was good as every thing was dirt cheap the most expensive thing on the order was the shipping and that was still cheap considering how heavy the clip holder is.

here is a 9v battery lead i made into a charge lead with a tamiya female plug, it also works with the DSE 8 x AA battery holder.

some more stuff turned up in the post, a traxxas 19t pinion and a 2 x cigarette lighter adaptor with 2 x usb ports.

i have some camping gear and other things that can only be charged via usd or cigarette lighter so i cut the 12v cigarette light plug off and soldered on 2 x male 4mm bullet connectors so it can be plugged into my power supply, and i can also plug it back into the 12v cigerette lighter plug as i have one with 2 x female 4mm bullet connectors if i need to use it in my car.

its only good for 5 amps and the usb ports are only rated for 500 ma so its only light duty but enough for what i needed it for.

i took the merv out for a run last monday, i was much lighter on the throttle and didnt do much hard braking, but still did alot of full throttle passes, just accelerated slower, the merv let me run a whole 3s lipo with out thermaly shutting down, so i think the 21/50t gearing is close but you have to drive more sedatly, my plan is to gear it so i can drive it like i normaly drive, with out using heat sink,s and thermo fans, so today i put on the traxxas 19t pinion and later on ill take it out and thrash it and see how it goes, i might even remember to take the temp gun this time, once i find the gearing that will let me run the way i drive normaly, then ill go up 5 teeth on the spur to run the bigger tyres and see how i go, might have to play even more with the gear, but if no joy ill drop back to running 2s lipo,s only.

i found this hidding in the mail box, its a traxxas 16t pinion.

this is the pinion gear with a 55t spur gear, i think im going to have to use with the sand storm paddles tires and the titus beadloc rims (16/55) and mabe with the dirt hawgs and titus beadloc rims, remember stock gearing is 28/50 for single or parrallel nimh and 23/50 for nimh in series and running lipo,s and parrallel lipo,s and so on, so ive already geared down heaps im down to 19/50, the hot weather were i live plays a big part in gearing so low aswell as my driving style.
