Well I couldn't resist the urge to buy a TR pullstart any longer, so I broke down and bought one. Just got it installed and I am pretty happy with the build quality of it. I wouldn't recommend using rope as a piston stop though. I spent 5 minutes getting out some pieces of the rope that came off in the motor 
oh well, everything turned out good in the end.
