The good thing about racing is that you can take it as seriously as you want, start at club level then move upto national & international races if the mood takes you.. It's a great crack when you race abroard, meeting new people and seeing how they do things.

No but if i did and the was a bunch of lads from baja-forum, they will be wanting to kill me....... :lol: don't ask because i cant be bothered explaining, hence the fact that ive been banned from there.

Racing is acquiring a higher skill level, during which time, there will be numerous accidents in the cause of 'education'. We go through some of this in 'bashing', but racing is clearly defined in duration, aka distance required and thus achieving a target.
I do have a high concentration - or have had in my 'time' - but I really don't have the patience to really be 'on it' for every single straight, and lining it up for every single corner to get the best departure angle and speed after the corner .... this is flattery to racers, and FULLY DESERVED.
I know I'm possibly unnecessarily competitive and similarly impatient, so question my potential abilities here, so personally I prefer to 'bash'. PLus, at 51, I really don't want some 8 year old Lewis wannabe to be totally embarrassing me ... !!!!

Bashing permits the operator generally to select within the outer bounderies, just where he/she will operate, how, and at what speed.
Similarly the 'basher' can choose to abort as and when he/she pleases, rather than trying to 'limp home' a possibly obviously defective truck, for example to get some points, but which will require more serious repairs than to simply 'call it a day', when the early signs start showing - brake fade, shock leaks, clutch slip, or even a bit of piston slap from a worn ring before it shatters and totally trashes the cylinder ...

This is probably one of the most intelligent answers I've read on this forum about anything (apart from my stuff lol). There are bits I can understand although not agree with and other bits agree with fully. I still think you'd have a good giggle if you did go to the odd race now and again.

I agree also Mike I do not race a full schedule but it is fun. It seems I bash as much as I race here of late. I do miss hanging around a BS-n with friends. mostly the trash talk that happens for the next week till the next race/grathering about who bested who but all in fun.
I race just to better myself an to make as many laps mostly clean lol .but thats the fun

For any who have not tried it give it a go than give a opinion.Just remember too run what you brung it's all in fun.Cheers
 
I like to bash but recently we have just built a small temp but functional track in which there is only 1 way to travel, we have had the odd 5 -10 min race and it does start to improve your driving skills, what we have found too is that once you gotten past the first bend the cars seem to spread out and you can just go at your own rate of speed, after lots of pactise i'd expect you would get faster and faster.
 
I'm back in 3-4 weeks.
It's actually quite pleasant outside, going up to +7C yesterday!
If I can swing it, I'll try and call by the new site, but I need to consider the family, particularly with my 'away time' not likely to diminish - company is expanding ...
Just wish the FG MT had more throw on the arms (reckon it's as soft and compliant as I'll get it), and obviously don't wish to bend too much, else the wife'd never be out of Next in compensation!!

hi mike,as you probably know from my pms in the past, that i would be interested in giving it a try.The good thing is if you can recruit some bashers off various forums, then most os us will have none or very little racing experience( i hope ,lol) Then this could be my window into racing!
 
Hey everyone just browsing the web and found Mike Spamming :D:D

I'll put my hands up that i'm defo in the racing camp!
I started with RC in about 1982 - 83 when I was at School, gave it up when I discovered beer and birds lol. Then about 10 years ago I started tinkering with all the HPI stuff, did all the nitro truck thing, then when FG released their Monster Beetle I bought one, carried on bashing then I went to Notts and Derby to try my hand on the track and never looked back.
I honestly haven't driven an rc car any place but on a track for about 6 years :)
I really think that if you've not had a go you really should, I guess you could say it kind of made the hobbie complete, did for me anyway!
The social side of racing is good too, generally for a National its 2 nights camping with a few shandy's in the evening, I really enjoy it.
Next weekend the Brca are off to Cornwall for Round 2 of the 2011 championship, can't wait.
Actually its very very addictive :w00t::w00t:

If I can help get people along in anyway let me know.
Also for reference / rules regs etc I'm also the BRCA LSOR assist scrutineer, so if you need any info etc just ask :)

Hope to meet some of you trackside soon :)

Oops I meant to add that some of the most memorable and best races I've had were when I first started racing and qualifing way down the ranks ~but~ you still have the challenge of trying to beat the guy 2 places up the list ... you know you can do it, you've run the numbers before ... just a case of putting it all together, and beleive you me the buzz is tremendous .. like a drug :lol::lol:
 
I can agree with all of you guys over this one..
Not yet got myself a largescale but I originally got into rc via a bit of bashing then went on fairly seriously into racing.
the bashing side is fun and I still run an 1/8 nitro across the field but I do tend to get bored after a few tanks
where as when you are racing you can try to beat your own personal best or your best mate or any of the other racers..
If you feel something is wrong ..pull it in try again next time..not all of us have bottomless pockets.
I used to race to brca 10th electric rules and most things are easily followed.
when I used to race I would run to the death and normally it was my car that died first..lol I won that one every night...
so in answer to the original question...(and if I had my large scale )
yes I would like to get involved with a less competitive race shedule

I got back from doing a 700 mile round trip to race in the rain with little or no grip - was it a wasted trip? was is hell. It was a great laugh on the social side and I had to discover other ways of finding grip in places I've not tried before - not always with the best results but I did finish the race and got a 7th place out of 30+ drivers.
 
Nice 1 Mike :cup-1: What have you done to protect you servos & other electrics in such wet conditions? I have asked this before but interested to hear what the racers do??
 
A big party balloon over the reciever and a load of silicone spray before each run, some sealant of some sort around where the wires go in to the box and thats about it. you'll never get it 100% but hey ho.

Ah right so no dipping servos in plastisol or filling them with non conductive grease!! I haven't done anything to mine yet but will be doing the balloon on the receiver & sealing the box up. Would wd40 work on the servos before each outing if it was only wet grass ie not driving through puddles?
 
Yes absolutely agreee with mike, what a great weekend, brilliant social, lots of sunshine .. before it pissed it down on raceday lol!
The track was very technical and slippery even in the dry, in the wet it was very testing.
Nearly all went wrong for me with a wrong tire choice in the semi, but I managed to hang on and get in the A final ..... then I steamed on to finish 3rd overall :cup-3:

Well happy with that, roll on the next one :w00t:

And well done too mike, great result for you too :)
