Hello,

Just discovered there is a 1/5th scale RC track in Camarillo CA located in Ventura County. Has anyone been there? Here is their website link: https://www.roadrunnersrc.com/

I called them but it is a disconnected line. It is located inside a park, so I called the park ranger and they said the track is still accessible and usable. They have events scheduled on their calendar on the website. Was wondering if anyone has been there? Will be paying a visit soon. It is about an hour drive from me.

Only searches I could find on Facebook was of 1/10 scale races. There’s a couple 1/5 tracks out west I know of. Robinson raceway Potrero Ca. , Good ol boyz raceway, speed demon raceway, the Dirt Perris CA. , delta rc hobbies Antioch CA. , silverstate in Vegas, fear farm phoenix az

I'm not sure about what's on facebook but the park ranger confirmed the track is there inside the park, accessible, and usable. Not sure if its been abandoned or if people actually still use it or when the last time it was used was. It does look like a good track though. I might go either this weekend or next and will post pictures.

Yeah definitely post up

I went and checked it out back in February. It's called Freedom Park Raceway, You can check out the race results on LiveRc.com. It's there and fully functional. They still race on it on Friday nights mostly. I went on a Saturday morning, and they had events there the night before. The track was really nice, mostly because the night before, they would water the track down between races. The track is in a park along side a BMX track, swimming pool, baseball diamonds, etc. There's absolutely no fence around the track, so anyone can go..

BUT BEWARE... This is a small track that is meant for 8th and 10th scale vehicles. Me and a buddy went out there with our 5th scales and had a ball on the small track. It has really high jumps, so be ready to sent it! We went in the morning, around 10am on a Saturday. But by around 1pm more and more people started to show up with their 8th and 10th scales. The first to show up was a mom and her 10 year old kid. He drove, while the mom stood on the track flipping his vehicle back over when he would flip it. No way were we going to sending a 5-T six to eight feet in the air with her standing in the middle of the track. Then more people showed up. Our vehicles would trash there's if we were to crash, so we just left. I'm sure we could've worked out something to share time on the track, but it was just the two of us, and when we left it was six or seven or them, and more cars were pulling into the lot.

Here's a video I shot when we first arrived

I think we can set up the on road track to be able to run 1/5th scale races. We would just need to get a local group together. What are you thoughts on this?

Hi everyone,

I have some good news for the SoCal RC enthusiasts on this forum. I got in touch with Road Runners RC club and they said that they just renewed their lease with the park regarding the Freedom Park Camarillo RC track. They plan on starting races again. Specifically, on the second and fourth Sundays of every month. They said to follow the RoadRunners RC Facebook page as they will post more information there.

However, I am not sure if they allow 1/5th scale. I will let you know when I hear back as that was my next question to them. From what I see, they do 1/8th scale, but, I'm sure we can set up a track that will handle 1/5th scale there.

NOTE: If anyone in SoCal is interested in 1/5th scale racing at Freedom Park in Camarillo, please PM me so that we can get an interest group together. I will let the point of contact at Road Runners RC know, and post updates regarding 1/5th scale racing when I hear back.
