you can get the layshaft out without removing the motor, just undo the setscrew on the brake disc hub, undo the layshaft gear and slide the whole thing out from the spur side. you can just slide it a little ways over if you just need to change layshaft gears though if going a larger layshaft gear, you will need to move the motor forward and diddle with the rear bulkhead brace for the spacing
