I'd set the gear mesh manually, I never found the inserts to set lash properly.

Yeah, after I already ordered the 21t inserts, I found the threads talking about how bad they were. I made them work though. I broke out my orbital sander and shaved a little off the edge opposite the screw hole. I was able to set the mesh just right.

I went to fire it up for the first time... and of course I flooded it
. I took the carb off and pulled a couple times to get it started, the put the carb back on. Fired right up. I have the Bartolone silenced pipe on here, so definitely not as loud as my Vekta. I am starting with the low jet at 1.2 turns out and my high jet at 2.125 turns out as recommended from Doug Johns at ESP.
I still consider myself a noob at this, so how does this sound? It will be a few days before I can field run it.

Put it on the ground, it should be under a load to tune it. I like my idle a wee bit lower but that’s just me. Sounds good overall.

After it warmed up for about 10-15 minutes I put it on the ground and adjusted the idle down a bit and adjusted the linkage and trim/endpoints
Sounds great, agree with bit lower idle. Got fonzie inserts from Detroit rc, can set mesh anywhere with em. You're gonna enjoy the beast, absolute best most reliable rc ever!!!! Only failure other than wear and tear was my clutch bolts backed out in first few runs but was easy fix.
