Hey All,

Just want to emphasize the importance of doing full pre run checks! Was out with a buddy and he had a runaway. His kill switch lead either vibrated off or he inadvertently disconnected it when he took the top shroud and cleaned some grass out of it at home before we ran today making his remote kill useless.

We were bashing pretty hard and he blew out his battery box and ejected the battery. The car took off and was headed straight towards a pond and creek, he’s running behind it holding his transmitter in the air naturally the thing was non responsive. The area is grown over except where we cleared a little track, he lost complete sight of it. I was still perched at a higher vantage and had an idea where it was headed. Luckily it ended up hitting one of a few small trees an stopped around 600 to 800 feet away! If the terrain hadn’t some how made it change course it would have definitely done a Dukes of Hazard jump into a large pond.

These things are no joke and need to be respected! I think I actually may solder my leads on. I will be doing a much more thorough pre run check from this point forward. He got very lucky today outcome could have been much worse and costly!

Have fun guys, but be responsible! Here’s some running right before it happened and probably contributed to the battery box blow out.

i always check kill switch before every bash, just habit to do it now (y),
i also have heatshrink around the connector at kill switch end so its impossible for that end to come unplugged,
takes a minute extra when ya do need to disconnect , but better safe than sorry (y)(y):D

I originally heat shrinked my kill switch connector as well Spents. Unfortunately I cut it off doing some troubleshooting in the field, I’ll be reapplying it tonight!

Kill switch can't kill anything if it's not hooked up.
After having a wire wear through in the Baja meaning kill was useless I now do a remote check once each rig is fired up. It's become standard practice for me.

Your friend got off lucky, least no damage was done and a very big lesson learnt.
Do the same exact thing

Yeah I gotta do that.
I always do a pre run check like once every 3 months, and the rest of the time, I just say “eh it’s fine”. You see the problem is that it has always been fine 😂, I will not learn 🤣. I gotta get into the habbit 👍

Even though I've had mine a couple years, my overall run time isn't that high. I wait for the beeps to stop & make sure my KS light is on solid. Is that good enough pre check? After reading this, may consider switching to 1 clip per post hole for the tray covers or make sure their anchored somehow & can't back themselves out.

Start your rig. Then press channel 3 or turn your transmitter off. It should kill your engine. That's enough of a check for kill as its that situation your gonna need it. No need to remove covers etc except for maintenance.
