Here's my problem... It will start just fine, but as soon as I apply throttle, it takes off just as normal, then the throttle starts revving up and down in spurts, and then the engine Boggs out and dies, all in a matter of about 5 seconds. I can leave it at idle for a few minutes, but eventually the engine does the same thing, revvs up and down in spurts and then dies. I adjusted the needles to the stock settings, but still the same results. At the end, when I finally gave up... When I applied throttle, the truck didn't even move, just revved up, so I quit right there.

Could this be a clutch AND engine problem???

While the engine is freaking out (revving up and down, before it dies) the throttle servo isn't moving at all, so that can't be the problem. And every time the engine revs up, it's lunging forward at the same time... Clutch is engaging on its own?? No throttle applied by me, it does this all on its own. Tried to describe this as best as possible... Hope you guys can give me a starting point to start troubleshooting... Wanna get this figured out before the weekend.

I believe that the Xt comes with a doggy carby. Not a walbro that could be the prob there straight away as the factory carb is a bit hit and miss.

The air leak could cause the truck to move on its own?

Roger that! Carb, fuel lines... N engine. Will check it all tmrw night... Thanks for all the replies.

Vent the gas cap if you haven't done it yet. Check your fuel pick up in the tank make shure its not cloged. Also check your carbs air breather,it`s the two little screws in front of your primer ball, blow it out with air. Check for an air leak on your intake make shure your two carb bolts are tight.

Same BS happened to me on the first run! :(

Well I stripped my engine down and the gaskets didn't look worn so idk why I had a leak, but very soon I'm getting either a new top end and gaskets or a brand new zen.

I am very disappointed with the engine on mine. Like I wouldn't mind so much if the total lifespan was decreased a bit from name brand engines, but after only 2/3 of a tank is disturbing.

Air leak, for sure. Try spraying some carb cleaner around the gasket areas to pin point it. The idle should increase when you hit the leak.

You guys are miracle workers. I would be totally lost, and probably totally pissed without this forum. Thanks all that replied.

Turned out to be the carb like you all said. The screw at the bottom of the carb was loose. Must have been a problem for a while, I just kept adjusting the needles for the past month until last weekend it finally just gave up. She screams now!!!!

You guys rock!!! Totally made my day!!! Thanks.

Soooooooooo, I spoke too soon. Turns out all is not well. So, idle problem solved.... Check. Idles and revs like a champ now.

Problem is, it doesn't move. Makes a whole lot of noise, doesn't move an inch. I have one of those clearish white gear covers, so I can see them moving. But the shafts don't rotate at all. I hold the throttle, engine revs up perfectly... But nothing happens.

If I put the truck on blocks, the wheels will begin to spin... But if I set it down on the ground, it's like it doesn't have the strength to move itself. But, the engine does sound perfect. Grubs screws on main drive shaft look tight??

Clutch?? Gears??? Demonic possession??

Take the cover off. Do they all move? Do the front and rear dog bones (drive shafts) move? It is normally a grub screw is loose on the dif cups or center dif cups.

Grub screws were loose, but... Looks like I need to order a few more bits and pieces as well... The shafts on the gear plate that hold the gears aren't perfectly straight. I'll order more now.
