Countless pulls and one de-flooding procedure later....

Hope this was just a new-carb thing and not the new cold starting procedure...

What is that? Something similar to Killer RC's drill starter? I'm actually also considering it :) )) The only thing keeping me back is I don't like depending on the drill... I would love a drill starter that also has the capability of being started with a pull rope.

A combo like that would mean not having to lug a drill everywhere you go

As a frustrated novice and as a last resort I purchased the Killer RC drill starter. What a godsend. Hauling a drill around is a minor inconvenience but easily starting it on the bench is a big plus. It only takes a couple of minutes to switch back to the pull starter, which I might if I ever get it tuned properly

If you tune right. Pull start is far easier IMO.....
+1 on that a pull start is way easier then remembering to take a drill and remembering to charge the drill. Concentrating more on a better tune will give you easier starts, way better running, less plug fouling, much longer run time on the motor and so much more all the way around.

+1 pull start,

if you have a bad shoulder, some impediment of physical type, ect... then its an excellent avenue.

if not, its making a simple event into a complex device-dependent effort and crutching your potential.

myself i like it simple and effective,

open pullstart

On top of that, even with the drill starter, you still need to be within acceptable base setting for the engine to start. Which means if you started it with a drill, It also could have been started with a pull start.

How do you guys tune your LSN? With the HSN it's relatively easy, just search for top revs but how'bout LSN?

I'm guessing the LSN is the most important tuning part in getting the engine started.

Peppy responsiveness is what you are looking for when tuning the LSN. As soon as leaning it doesn't provide any more improvement, you richen it at least 1/16 of a turn. Keep in mind that transition from low speed to high speed may still require minor tweaks to make it smooth.

Thanks. For my stock settings, I was richening to the point where it was dying at idle, then leaning 1/8 and that was the max performance. With the new setup, I'll have to start over. Could a too rich LSN be the cause of my startup issues yesterday?

If it is flooding when you are try to start it then yes.

+1 Very good response!!!!!!

How can I tell? I don't know if it was flooding or not, it just wasn't starting. Of course after a lot of pulls and no start it eventually gets flooded, too rich or not.

If it has started. It was still within or close to the baseline for it to start. While it is running, richen it until it starts bogging and tune from there.
