Yet another DuneRunner :)

I have to say I'm not overly impressed with their traction, especially since adding the JetPro and the 8k clutch the car is extremely tail happy, it drifts whenever I go near the throttle and the front wheels aren't straight. Unfortunatelly I swapped the stock tires even before I finished my breakin (the rears were getting killed by the tarmac even when driving slow) so I don't have much to compare them to. What I can tell you is that they also wear pretty fast, I think the thread depth is already at 50% after maybe 4-5 tanks of fuel. Looks like I'll be using slicks pretty soon lol

Thicker diff fluid in rear and front will greatly reduced the drifts.

Wow, that much?! I thought you'll say something like 7k or 10k :) ) Will running such a thick oil have any side effects?

No silly putty is close to locking the diff the power will not shift to the less resistance which is not what you want 30K is not that high at all 100K is only when it start getting real thick. But its just diffs just try diff oils and find out which one works for you they are very simple to change but you don't want to lock and of the diffs because there is no center dif in the redcat. In all of my track running 1/5 scales I run 30K front 100K center 10K rear if they have a center diff. So with the redcats because there is no center diff you would want to run thicker in the rear. Running silly putty in a rear or front diff with no center diff is crazy you have you have no place for the power to unload. Check on other forums of 5th scales cars there are many of them out there and search for diffs I promise you at the track you will find more of the numbers I have stated then any other setup. And we race every weekend many gallons a month with no problems not just an occasional bashing.

Got it, thanks for your input. I think I'll get a bottle of 10k and one of 30k and start mixing.

Is it difficult to open up the diffs? I've never done it before. Do I need to seal them in order to prevent the oil leaking?

No its not hard at all no you will not seal them just make sure the gasket is in place when you put them back together and screw tight they will seal fine. If you have never done it before the hardest part is going to be cleaning the gears from the junk that comes stock from redcat its not a oil its some mystery grease so you will need to remove all the spiders gears to clean all of that junk off. Simple green works great to clean the spider gears. Then after you fill with diff oil the next time you go to work on or change the diffs it want be near as hard because you will just have diff oil to work with instead of that mystery grease bull which is pure garbage.

+1 Brace yourself for cleaning up the gears. If it gets on your hands, it will get on anything you touch giving you more cleaning to do.

I have a cream mechanics use to get grease of their hands, maybe that'll work :)

From what I've seen here on the forum it's a common problem so someone should have an answer. It's not something that's happened to me though (fingers crossed)
For what its worth, the problem (not starting when hot) disappeared after changing the intake, so the stock plastic one was probably warping and causing a leak when the engine was hot.

I finally found some free time to take the car out and properly tune the carb with the jetpro. I ended up at 1 1/4 with the HSN but it's getting really hard to hear the engine over the exhaust. Could you guys take a look? Does this sound too lean to you?

Dunno about anyone else but that doesn't sound as lean as mine does.

From the speed I'd reckon you could go a tad leaner
