No, I didn't check it, I'll do it the next time I run. However, I'm a little worried about killing it at full revs. Last time I did that my problem started with not being able to start the engine when hot. I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but I'm not too eager to try again. Does the color of the spark plug change so fast that it's not okay to just wait for the revs to drop to idle?

When in doubt the spark plug is your best friend! What was the color after shutting down at WOT (provided you checked it)?
+1 I told him from the beginning on to tune the high speed from the plug even sent him a link to read the right plug color. Listening to others on the blog he wants to tune from listening to the engine. How are you supposed to hear and engine with a loud pipe on the side is beyond me!!!! But hey to each its own I guess. You can tell he is to rich on the low needle you are not suppose to see a puff of smoke every time you take off from slow or stop. This is not nitro.

If you wait until it revs to drop the idle you will have gas on your plug therefore you will not be able to get the correct color. Killing your engine at high rev has nothing to do with it being hard to start when warm.

@rcgasser I know you told me that before, but since that problem happened (the stock plastic intake got warped) I was thinking maybe killing it at full revs causes a temperature spike by removing the cooling so abruptly which might have caused the warping issue so I was trying to find alternative ways of doing this. If you guys say you've done this before and it should be fine, I'll try it again. After all it's possible that it was just a coincidence. Are you revving the engine with the car in the air? On one hand, I remember someone saying that revving it in the air is not good for the engine but on the other hand if it's on the ground I can't stop it without it revving down first.

P.S. The no-smoke at launch is the first I've heard of it, I thought this is how it's supposed to be.

Dint you have a kill switch on your car? No run it wide open not in the air. If you have a kill switch just do the high speed run toward you kill the engine when its close to you and let it coast the rest of the way to you.

I do have a kill switch but I only have a 2 channel radio. That means that in order to trigger the KS i need to turn off the radio. The problem with that is the radio's failsafe engages immedially and applies the brakes but the KS takes about 2 seconds to trigger, basically letting the engine rev down to idle...

Just turn the TX off to kill the motor then if you need steering just flick it back on.

I'd turn it off with the car heading somewhere safe

That's the problem, the Tx needs to remain off for ~2s in order for the kill switch to stop the engine. During those 2s the failsafe will apply the brakes so by the time the kill switch engages, the revs are probably already around idle.

yes, the Ramtech-RC kill switch (the one from Rob) isn't instantaneous. Anyway, I just ordered the FS-IT4 radio and the killer rc super bee so I won't be having this problem anymore in a couple of weeks :)

Yes I have seen that 2 second delay cause some real damage being done that's why I stopped using the ramtech kill switch and use the super bee only now.

So after about 5-6 tanks of fuel, my rear left tarmac buster (the one holding by far the most weight) is down to slick status :) ) I managed to "eat" about 2mm of thread from it last night in just half a tank (admitted, it was a crazy half tank lol). I'll have to start rotating them around but this thing eats its tires quite quick. I'm ready to bet I could completely destroy the stock rears with half a tank... The 8k clutch might have been a little too much lol
