Just gave her a run with the silencer.

Still shows 80 dB at idle but it's a softer tone and much more acceptable

Performance wise it's definitely faster esp in the mid range

Having some fun :) (literally 30 seconds after finishing shooting this video the throttle servo died, towards the end I could feel something was wrong but I wasn't sure what)

Quick question: I replaced my throttle servo with the hitec hs-5645mg but apparently the tooth count differs from the stock servo (24 vs 25) so obviously I can't use the stock arm. Now, none of the arms that came with the servo have holes large enough for the linkage... should I just drill bigger holes in one of those arms or is there a better way?

The brake linkage is sort of z bend wire but thicker than the arm holes. On the throttle side, there's a screw indeed. So drilling is the answer, thanks.

Thanks, I'll do that.

One more thing, guys: while installing my replacement WT-1107 last night I found that the part of my baja air filter that goes on the carb has warped and is no longer providing a good seal. Has anyone else had that happen? Is this a common problem for this filter? Can I buy just that part or does it only come with the entire air filter?

Yet anoyher dunerunner

The inclined shred stack works with the Baja Filter and tilts the stack upward to help clearance with the throttle/brake servo arms.

Looking forward to your feedback on the 1107 vs stock carb.

I'll take it out tomorrow, hopefully I'll be able to give some feedback. The last 1107 I got came defective from the factory and, being in Europe, it's a pain to get it replaced from DDM. Hoping for better luck this time.

Thanks man! Do you mean this? http://www.davesmotors.com/shreadstack-industries-shreadstack-for-hpi-baja-5b-5t.htmlWill this replace just the part that got warped and work with the rest of the stock baja filter? What is the difference between the options in that link? I know what the inclined one does but no idea about the other two.
Yep, it just replaces that piece and they're designed for the Baja filter.

The open plenum:

As you can see, it's similar to the plastic filter mount. Doesn't have that raised inlet in the middle like the other two options. The Reed stack is designed for Reed engines, if you're running the stock engine, you don't have a Reed so don't worry about that one.

The open plenum is designed to increase RPM's without robbing you of torque. The inclined stack is designed to increase torque without robbing you of RPM's. Now, whether or not they actually accomplish that is up for debate. Personally, I think the main benefit is heat dissipation. Since they're aluminum they won't warp, and they'll pull heat away from the carb which prevents heat soaking.

Unfortunately it works just as bad as the first one (which was definetely confirmed to be defective). Seems really weird to get 2 duds in a row but I don't know what else it could be. Switching back to the stock carb makes the car a beast, so it's definetely not something else...

I started at 1 1/8 and 1 1/2 for L/H and leaned gradually to about 1 and 1. No change :(

What about richening?

Maybe someone else can chime in. Did sound like the bogging was due to too lean a setting.

Are you going to experiment again or call it quits on this carb and try a 998?
