I had thought about leaving it like that myself..but knowing me I will end up with a layshaft brake aswell.

first drives will be front only though..

I will be in the workshop alot more today though..

if I'm not getting shouted at by the wife to come out of the workshop I'm now getting told to get in it from here...ROFLMAO :lol::lol:

hey all..

well got the rear end built today...Diff is smooth now (well filled with grease)
all rear suspension is on minus the shocks all round. started fitting up the engine and repairing the alloy engine mounts...snapped screws and sheared bolts are never good..I've over drilled them and opened them up to m5 from m4 and one was so bad its now an m6..but all is good and never cost me anything other than time..

now when setting up the layshaft and gears I seem to think something is missing(other than the brakes) I seem to have about 5mm of side movement...not actually moving by hand but the possiblity is there under load .I know these things kick out alot of power through the gears and Im guessing that 5mm will come back and bite me hard...is this shaft meant to have shims on it or another collar? all I have fitted to the shaft is the spur gear and the diff drive gear....

progress pic..

Cheers Ben
It would be complete if all wasn't so badly maintained in the past...
fed up with fixing the bad bits already.

I'm getting there...

Post a pic bud ;)

ok here is a pic to show what I mean..

there is a gap between the alloy and gear on both sides...the spur and the diff drive gear.

there is about 2mm on spur side and 3mm on the diff side.
should there be spacers there or is there something else missing all together...

if i remember rightly there should be a washer either side mate..

ah no you don't, this is normal, if you look on the chassis there is a square hole that sits next to engine, if you sit that engine on the chassis you will find its sits flush and perfect, i notice the same thing when I sit my engine on a table, its always got a gap, but sit it on the chassis and its right.

Sperera....Charlieboy is right it is the layshaft itself we are looking at.

I have the possibility of about 5mm of side movement on the layshaft.

the engine fits to the chassis perfect due as you say to the hole in the chassis
..
thanks guys..I will make some up on the lathe today as I'm not waiting for delivery

Well on its way now..got to rebuild the 4 shocks
Set up the radio gear and servos and bolt in the engine..
refit the wheelie bar and paint the shell .
:w00t::w00t::w00t:

Feels like I got somewhere today..took a while to make the radio tray but it was worth doing.

I need to make up a spacer for the top of the steering post to the roll cage mount.

Cant decide what colour to paint the shell though...Grey primer for now..lol

You have put me to shame bud  Looks good & nice work on the tray :cool2: Grey primer.....its the future :lol: I like black shells at the moment.....its been done loads of times but black monster energy looks cool. CSR260 just got some monster energy decals for £2 off ebay. Look in his 5T thread for the link if you fancy some.
