Spoke to rossmods last night & my layshaft tuning brake still hasnt come in  Will be another week now before its ready to go provided the brake arrives. I can see me putting the std brake on to get it running then changing over when it lands. Frustrating :(

Ross mods have an ally front shock tower for £20 that includes the brace that fixes to both A & B parts so might pick that up when my tuning brake eventually arrives!

What are your opinions on this roll cage.........

I think its a bad idea cos it fixes through the servo saver. Any big offs will strain this point and there will be no give in the cage so I guess the servo saver cops it.

Here is the cage before I stripped the car down........

Now I have straightened the chassis guess what........it doesn't fit anymore

You can see from the last pic just how much the chassis was out by :scared: Yes it will protect the radio tray from damage but my opinion is that it will do more harm than good over the long term.

What are your opinions before I cut it off. Straighten it or lose it??????

Just looked at Wez's cage in his baja rebuild thread and the front arms on his are dead straight. This 1 has either had a massive off or someone has tried to make it fit to the banana'd chassis..........

Right Ive sussed it :w00t:
The front arms of the cage are bent purposely to allow the marder body shell to fit on properly. If you look at this pic with the shell on (you may have to open the pic & zoom in a bit!!) you can see the red tape on the front arm through the side window. This is higher than the line of the shell so the arms need to be bent down to run under the body. Right where is my grinder..........:lol:

The cage sits so far back there is no strength behind the uprights on the shell between the windows so any impact here would cause damage. Wont matter with the bug shell tho :D

Andy just been in and took this pic..
yes your cage seems bent...first thing on mine that is straight..:w00t:

I'm I was going to bolt it back through the steering post as in my eyes the chassis will be triangulated and not flex so should be stronger in the long run.
even mine does not seem to line up perfectly with the post so I thought I would tweek the cage and use the hole just in front of the steering post..hence putting less stress on it.

thats just my thoughts..

ah you found the reason....lol... just not quite quick enough eh..

if your running the bug you can straighten it fairly easily..

In my time as a fabricator I was always taught to check twice cut once so not cut anything off yet!! I know what you are saying it will make it more rigid but I don't have this arrangement on my other marder & had no real problems with flexing on that apart from a runaway full chat into a rock :scared: Any cage wouldnt have saved it that day but Im sure this arrangement would have caused more damage. A bit of flex is good in them situations IMO  don't know what to do yet so it will stay as it is til Ive decided!!

Do you know who makes this type of cage?
I have looked but cant find this shape for sale anywhere!

I know what your saying in if its too rigid the shocks are just transferred elsewhere and can cause more damage. its kind of catch 22..

Andy is the cage custom made?

the metal roll cage was made by M.R who used to make for KCR

it was years ago i was talking to the guy and Bob in ross mods

way before you could buy things like this ...Bob always had a soft spot for

me marder ....i was showing it to them both and next thing M.R was making

them :D......but not out of solid bar

K....

Here you go bud. Keith posted earlier on in the thread ;)

aahhhhh i did read that before but it never registered.

low volume then..I thought it would be nice to be alloy all the way back instead of cutting and swapping it to plastic..mmmmm maybe in the future when I get a bottle of argon I can tig one up myself..

don't forget if you take the flex out of the wing mounts you will be looking at a new wing every time you roll over :w00t:

Thats true! never thought of that...Maybe thats why this car came with 3 lexan wings and 2 alloy wings..lol

when do you think you will have this up and running then??

Andy its begining to look good ......:D

did make my wing out of a stainless steel jaguar silencer blank

slight oversized as you can see but in keeping with mine ;)

and yes its well used:rolleyes:
