I absolutely adore my MTXL but I do not think its a good beginners platform. 5ive-T and 5ive-B in particular are just more forgiving, In the MTXL wheels you have a huge amount of rotating mass so a dodgy jump can easily take off the whole arm where T and B brush it off and drive on. When we call the MTXL almost indestructible it is understood that it is in the hands of a skilled driver who are going to have to work hard to hurt it. The accidents that all noobs make are going to cost more with an MTXL is my accusation. And once again, this is from someone who absolutely love the truck to death and think its the best basher ever made.

edit..TBH If I was you I think I would get a second hand HPI-Baja with a few upgrades on to test out of large scale is really for you. It is a very different beast from normal sized RC's and the noise and smell wears out on some people and then its dumb to be down thousands which you will not recoup. These things loose value like a 3 wheeled Prius. SO consider dipping a toe first at a hundred bucks or two (which you likely can recoup fully as long as you do not trash it). THe Baja is the most cloned, most popular, where you can get most upgrades, most users etc.. I actually think everybody here either currently have a baja, a clone, a bastard (mixbreed)or used to have one and think fondly of it and regret getting rid of it. And if you can control a large scale 2wd then getting a 4wd in the future will make you feel like Pro McPro in his new high end car.

I agree I've never had a baja personally but it was a friends baha that made me go 1/5 scale. Now I prefer 4wd but the baja is cheaper to get into
