I LOVED having reverse on my 1/8 nitro Savage 4x4's , I see there is some reverse kits on the market for the 1/5ths but very little feedback, so i'm guessing they suck for relibility as does the 2 and 3 speed transmission kits ? Anyone have good experiences with a reverse kit upgrade ?

Ive never had one and never will, I don't see the purpose, unless you suck at driving and end up in a ditch every 2 minutes, I think it's unnecessary. Plus it's bulky as hell and it's a China special so I can't imagine it's any good. And there's more bullshit hanging off yer layshaft causing drag and more weight slowing it down.
2 speeds and 3 speeds, I've seen people use the king motor 2 speed in drag racing, supposedly they are ok, but again, another thing to break and maintain (the one way bearings), plus you'll probably be cleaning the bearings quite often from the dirt (they aren't sealed bearings cuz well than cant really be sealed cuz they are a cylindrical shaped one way bearing) if you gear the single speed setup properly you should be just fine. So in conclusion, I'd just stick with what you have and Change gearing if you want to see if you can maximize the performance you want. But do what you want, were just here to provide our opinions

I had reverse in my MGT's ,I jerked them out an added the forward only kit in them ,LOL...all three of them ,it got
rid of a lot of dead weight ,an was easier on the OWB & other gears!

Its funny to here that one would want to add ,but ,I guess it would be convenient to reverse a rig than to walk
all the way to where its at to get it un stuck!....LOL

Sure but if your a halfway decent driver you will avoid big ass ditches and won't need one.

Only my Radio Shack specials and my 1980's Clodbuster had reverse. I think if you're running electrics, sure! Go for broke. But the putting a mechanical reverse in a gas or nitro powered car is only likely gonna cause heart ache in the long run. I've never put my 5T in a position to require a reverse gear, but I can't speak for your running conditions. I have heard that they put a lot of strain on the drive and layshaft, not to mention added weight, but I can't speak from a position of personal experience.

I say hey, if you have the cash and want to go that route, more power to ya! After all, this is about your own enjoyment of the hobby and it doesn't really matter what anyone else on this forum thinks, so long as it makes you happy.

Guy's i'm not asking for you opinions on the need for reverse or not. Up here in New England larger dirt areas suitable for bashing a 1/5 scale are VERY hard to find. Play areas are usually riddled with trees , rocks, tree stumps, fences and what not. Reverse has saved me MANY walking trips when I simply "run out of room". If all's I wanted to do was just run WOT around parking lots and grass baseball fields , reverse would never be needed. I'm more asking about the reliability of the reverse kits.
