Hi so I’ve been moving my MTXL parts over tot he RCMax billet chassis but I’m having some issues getting everything to line up properly without the cut in the chassis. I can shim the center diff area enough to get it working but when I add my fid center diff setup it’s all just a bit short and needs more shimming, what ends up happening is I’ve shimmed so high that I can no longer get the brake pins to slide into their holes to apply the brakes, not enough of the home is showing to get the brake stems in. So,I’ve been kicking around the idea of changing my spur to something smaller then the stock 67. I knelt he dbxl has a 48 and a 50 the t I think would work as I know the vehicles are close tot he same but I was hoping to get a bit closer to the stock size so it more low end still and notice you can get a 5ive in a 57 or 58 which I think the size diff would be enough to let me clear my chassis without shims and everything would work. My thoughts and questions are, are spur gears pretty much interchangeable? If I change the. Spur must i change the pinion? Thoughts? I’m talking about about 4-6 mm shim up to get clearance from the chassis so the spur doesn’t need to be a lot smaller, I don’t think? Thanks regardless guys

Thanks for the tip. Can you explain a bit of your suggestion to change the pinion as well? Do I just get the pinion that goes with the spur or is there a best practice?

ideally u need to decide if u want acceleration or top end or best of both when u gear ur rc?....so once u decide on spur then decide on pinion?..remember the mtxl is a fat ass...gear accordingly??
and gearing can depend on ur engine also?

Ah. Ok so I’ve got a obr 34 non Reed in it. Not looking for top end per say just want to rip it, strictly bashing. I currently have the 67t with the stock 17t pinion I think. Any suggestions if I want to keep it close but also reducing the overall size of the pinion?

That’s what I’ve heard. The main diff was I think Mike wa trying to eliminate the hole in the chassis as he said a lot of people said they got stuff up in the hole, but your right it had been as real pain and at this point has wished and thought about sending it back as well. My guess is I couldn’t send it back at this point so I guess I gotta finish it. Suggestions on spur/pinion? feeling great about my purchase.... o_O

tbh gearing is not top of my list..?..so not gonna suggest anything unfortunately ?..im sure sumone will b along to suggest sumin?
jus a thought...?y not raise ur servo up a bit to match the center mount? then it should all line up linkage/hole wise?

Just run the 50 tooth dbxl and get (if you can) a 15 or 16 tooth pinny. Tbh, I think that chassis was made for the smaller spur gear from the dbxl. Otherwise it would have had the appropriate stand off from the get go. With the 34 cc you should have a bit more down low so getting the same exact gearing shouldn't be necessary. I don't think the 5ive spur works on the mt/dbxl platform.

It wasn't pretty busting out a grinder on a work of art chassis. But for me to not use the spacers under the center diff and center shaft bearing carrier it was worth it. I did grind a slot for the stock spur and used a skid plate to cover it. The brake arm issue. You must have too thick of ahim on the top plate. I was able to make two shims for up top and still fit the brake arms yet allow spur clearance. 20190808_225149.jpg
