Getting into 5th scale price wise shouldn't be taken lightly. If you go with a clone it will ruin the experience for you in the long run and buying parts as you break isn't a great idea because your just polishing a turd. Bite the bullet and buy a name brand car and call it a day and enjoy it...there's no such thing as cheap in 5th scale

buy whatever you want, its not my problem. just suggesting you to get what will give you the least headaches . btw where are you located? the losi 5ive b is 750 not 1200. ive boughten plenty of used rigs that were great. just got to know what to look for, or know people (the forum) that do
Do you have a link the the $750 kit?

Hey listen, I agree with ya but given he doesn't even know if he wants to get into it, it's a lot to suggest $1500 starting point. I myself can't afford that right now so I picked up a used hpi 5sc for $380.... For $600 on a new KM or Rovan you can't go wrong. Don't like it, then sell it for a small loss compared to having to sell a losi 5ive. These gas engines take a certain type of nut job to enjoy!

Plus the customer service is top notch, he is the owner, can’t remember his name but super cool dude, one of the buggy’s had a broken piece from shipping, he replaced it no questions asked, said if i find anything else to let him know asap, received the part in a couple days, you just don’t get a cool sticker or mint candy like DDM does, lol.

when all said and done it will be your own choice what you buy zane (y),
everone will offer there advice (as i'm doing as well  ), but its up to yourself to filter through it and decide,
as said above though, if you get bitten by the 1/5 scale bug you will spend money on upgrades, even if thers nothing broke, you will upgrade,
but first you have to decide 2wd or 4wd, then decide what you will like engine wise, whether you would be happy with a 26cc or 29cc or you want 32cc plus etc,
parts do break on clones , but also parts break on name brand rc's so bare that in mind, its not like running a 1;1 car ,rc parts are stressed much more, and they wear out or break, this also depends on what surface you run on, tarmac/asphalt then parts will last a bit longer, unless you hit something hard that is , run on grass and the risk of flips and rolls increases, so breakages will happen more often, run in sandy type areas and the bearings, dogbones, spurs, pinions etc will wear very quickly,
everyone breaks stuff on there rc's , and everyone breaks different parts cos everyone drives different,
so just keep in mind that you will need to replace parts especially 1/5 scale,
also if you do buy second hand, just be very wary and ask advice on here or from someone who knows rc's before you buy,
put a link on here or whatever and ask, there are alot of people who will try and pass off clone cars as genuine name brand rc's just so they can make more on there sale,
this happens especially with the hpi baja,
you will make mistakes when buying upgrades, and you need to just keep in mind you made a mistake and move on lesson learnt sort of thing,
i/m not trying to put you off 1/5 scale mate, just giving you a bit of a heads up on what to expect,
i've spent a lot of money over the years on 1/5 scale, and will continue to do so cos i love the hobby,
hope you find an rc that puts a big grin on your face every time you use it, even when it breaks :ROFLMAO:(y)

Honestly I can compare this thread to the real life scenario as buying your first car. Usually you buy the cheapest thing to get you on the street and hope its reliable enough to make it a few years without breaking the bank and once you get some experience and driving skills then you upgrade to a better car.

So its your choice you can get the cheap Honda and hope it was a good decision or you can opt for the Maserati out of the gate

Kinda a bad comparison as euro cars are usually poop but we'll said ??

I think I've decided to stick with a 1/8 scale for my first internal combustion rc. I do like the near instant acceleration of a nitro and if I went 1/5 it would be nice to do it "right", perhaps if I really get into the 1/8 I can plan a 1/5 kit like the Losi for my next rc. Thanks for all the help guys it really does help.

don't be SCARED !!! Just kidding ! good luck man

Buying either a team associated or team losi truggy kit. No engine, no electronics and NO wheels and tires is at minimum 600 bucks. Now add in a radio set at say 300 ish for mediocre servos. A .28 nitro engine add in 180 which doesn't always include a tuned pipe for the engine so with a tuned pipe up it another 100.Rims and tires will cost about 60 bucks. Fuel is at 30+ a gallon. You need a bunch of glow plugs at 7-8 a Piece. Glow igniter at 30 a piece
And might as well have 2 when you run it because there goes your day if your only igniter dies on you. Bump box is another 100 dollars. Batteries might as well have a set if you run awhile because again there goes your day if you can't start the truck. So thats another 100.

Getting a competition ready truggy from kit to running will probably cost every bit of 1000 dollars

Both scales COST MONEY to run. Its just what you like at this point
