Buying either a team associated or team losi truggy kit. No engine, no electronics and NO wheels and tires is at minimum 600 bucks. Now add in a radio set at say 300 ish for mediocre servos. A .28 nitro engine add in 180 which doesn't always include a tuned pipe for the engine so with a tuned pipe up it another 100.Rims and tires will cost about 60 bucks. Fuel is at 30+ a gallon. You need a bunch of glow plugs at 7-8 a Piece. Glow igniter at 30 a piece
And might as well have 2 when you run it because there goes your day if your only igniter dies on you. Bump box is another 100 dollars. Batteries might as well have a set if you run awhile because again there goes your day if you can't start the truck. So thats another 100.

Getting a competition ready truggy from kit to running will probably cost every bit of 1000 dollars

Both scales COST MONEY to run. Its just what you like at this point
Yip not cheap??

I priced out a losi 22t stadium truck ..big E word. As I wanted to race in something. And the truck was in the 300 range as a kit. Same deal no rims,tires,motor,battery,electronics... fast forward to the cart and it was about 1000 just to have a competition ready 1/10 scale stadium truck. And then thats when I said F that! Unless your racing for something then its not worth it. Nitro is not impressive anymore. And you also need to take into consideration every single time you run that nitro engine you are tuning it to that day and the weather conditions. Humidity, temperature, atmospheric pressure. You may want to consider this. My 5t runs just as good as the day or week before. I know because I have 5 nitro trucks I run and everytime I run them it needs a tune up

Well I'm not building a high quality kit for my first one, will stick with RTR, likely either HPI Savage X 4.6 or the Losi 8ight-t. If I dig it I might talk myself into a kit for my next one.
So for overall quality and ease of use which would you prefer (Hpi savage x, Losi 8ight-t) or a KM002?

Hpi doesn't know who they are at the moment so I wouldn't put much faith in that company and once they go discontinued good luck finding parts. And as far as the rtr losi its not a bad choice. From what I can elaborate on between the 10th and 5th scales is that 5th give you wider range of environments to have fun in and 10th is meh it goes but not as good. And I hope you have a reliable supplier for fuel because if you have to order it online be ready for a fuel transportation charge added. So 30 a gallon now goes to 60 a gallon plus shipping
