So I’ve started a nitro project that has been one heck of a rollercoaster but also has been very satisfying to learn about, anyway it’s a thunder tiger ek4-s2. A very elusive, puzzling, and wicked RCMT. When I started this build alike with others I had actually no clue about this truck, it’s history, or what I was getting myself intošŸ˜… but boy I’m glad I did it was like getting a hidden treasure, anyways I’ve done some extensive research into my ek as well as it’s history and have become very fond of this truck. I’d love to talk about anything to do with these trucks (mods, custom stuff, advice/experience) keeping most of the bad out would be preferred since these trucks get a bad wrap and I have read my fair share from other brand lovers bashing it lol buuut that’s also usually from uneducated inexperienced unenthusiastic hobbyists and hey to each their own right. Also I should say I’m not brand specific since there are ā€œbest for the occasionā€ of every brand. šŸ˜…šŸ„²

Kinda surprised your sticking with the original engine, and haven't converted to a center diff. They were hell on the drive trains. Also if you didnt know the eb4 (I believe it was called. The buggy this is based off of.) Has about 80% i interchangeable parts for this thing.
Yessir I’ve found the center diff setup I want and am fighting over that or a two speed at the moment, really trying to ā€œbulletproofā€ the diff system so a few ideas are in the air, including a custom setup. And yup the eb4-s2 buggy’s adaptable parts make for an easier time finding ergs, etc. but really on the hunt for triple h and msj love. Which is also the reason for the stock engine still being on it. Although I’ve found a few beauties that would be pretty sweet to put in its place until shelfing time šŸ˜…

Just get on with it. While you’re shopping you could get a 1/5th scale and really join the club.

Just a thought.

If you are still around here is some pictures that should be interesting to you....I used to have several of these and ran them hard. Now I only have this one. Full triple H, all upgrades, have all the original parts and manuals, never started. Here are some photos:

I’ve still got mine from way back
It has all the msj engine upgrades on it
It was by far the most cantankerous sob to get running and keep tuned, never had a nitro engine that was as miserable as that one
But when it ran right holy crap the thing was a powerhouse!
It ate clutches constantly
Years later I decided to revisit the big big block nitros and got the mgt 8.0
It’s still sitting in the box I never even fired it up lol

It’s cool to hear about how others got on with this rig. I am a helicopter guy and it is just a helicopter motor so I had great luck using my Cool Power 30% helicopter fuel in it. Was a ridiculous over powered ride. I ran one weekly for about 10 years before I sold it to a buddy and just kept this one as it was all upgraded. Totally hear you about the clutches. I actually had upgraded mine with a helicopter clutch bell and clutch to solve the problem but then it need a wheely bar because if you just barely hit the throttle and it hooked up it would flip over every time. So much fun and it seems will never be replicated but it does require patience to get that motor to run right. Super sensitive needles and would overheat without at least 20% oil in the fuel.

that’s one thing I never tried with mine was to run helicopter fuel in it
I ran the blue thunder 20% stuff mostly
Now that I think about it it would be a no brained to use heli fuel in a heli engine lol
One day I will have to dig it out and get it running again
