I am sure this has probably been ask, but I am new here and have not really messed around with RC for about 25 years. There is dirt pit near me where I always see people jumping and kicking up dirt. I would like to purchase a 1/5 Monster Truck in a few weeks but wanted to come to the pros and see which trucks I should be looking at. The main ones I am leaning toward atm is the Redcat Racing Rampage XT/MT. Which other ones should I be looking into for dirt type work and launching over mounds of dirt?

I did look into electric as well, Redcat Shredder and X-Maxx, but wasn't sure that it was worth it. In the past when i had my Rc it was electric and had to have multiple battery packs, charger, among other things to extend your playtime.

I notice that most of the controls have multiple AA batteries in them, is there a way to utilize a rechargeable pack for that? I feel that the pack in the controls would last A LOT longer than the ones in the truck so it might be worth it.

I am sure that there are other questions that I have, but cannot think of them atm.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I’m sure there is a bunch of guys here that have experience with the redcat monster truck that will chime in. As a group I can confidently say that you should go the gas route. I’d also recommend staying away from a transmitter that uses AA.

A converted BAJA 5t is nice HOWEVER you must know if you decide to go this route that it will only be 2wd and you will need to do more then just get body and wheels to make it run right. Lower gearing, stronger steering, and possibly better engine is inorder.

My personal best choice would be getting a LOSI 5t and converting that however since I don't own a Losi I don't know the full details on what's needed to finish the job. There is PLENTY of people here who can help you with that. At no point, you will be lost unless you don't own the mechanical aptitude to do the work.

For the love of God do not buy anything redcat.
I had the rampage xt and its a pile of poop. Everytime I had to get to parts that broke I had to replace every screw I took off as the Allen strips very easy. The diffs leaked to the point it would leave spots on the floor where it sat... your choice of tires is non existent you can only use redcat if you don't buy adapters. Replacing spark plugs suck as you need to remove the cage around the plug....just a bad idea

If RCR rampage is bad, what do u guys recommend? I looked at the 5t and while it looks amazing, i am trying to keep my budget under 1k. Also is there a controller that uses packs instead of batteries?

seems that a converted rovan or redcat may be your only choices then if im not mistaken. If you have a grand you arent far off of getting a LOSI 5t. Id save up a bit more, it will save you in the long run and will be way better then getting clones.

*EDIT* Actually he COULD get a 30DNT and convert that I Forgot about those.

🤦‍♂️...if your budget is 1k then your not ready to jump in yet. Your budget at 1k is just settling for what you can get. Would you go out and buy a car you can't afford and settle for a vw bug when you wanted a truck....same concept here

Stop it you bully🤣🤣. I bought my first losi for $800 and it served me well… then I spent another $3000 on parts and sold it for $800🤔 this hobby sucks🤣
