I had a DBXL-E 2.0 and absolutely loved it. I ended up selling off all my RC's last year due to life circumstances. I am back now and this new DBXL 2.0 Gas rig looks pretty nice. I was going to build a Kraken Vekta, but I don't think I want that headache. Anyone have experience with the 2.0 battery powered and the gas? Does the new one hold up way better than the old one? Should I even bother or go straight for the 5T?

Get the 5t over your other choices. A dbxl in any generation sucks. Ive laid hands on a dbxl 2.0 gas and its still not up to a 5t's icon status. The 5t has by far the most upgrades available to it in the Gas portion next to the hpi baja and the dbxl across all generations severely lack aftermarket support.

If I pick up the 5T, I am assuming all I should need is a 7.4v battery for the servos, fuel, superbee kill switch, and remote right? Maybe a tuned pipe?

Correct and mod it as you go, it's ready go out of the box with no issues and doesn't need any attention immediately. With the 5t pay attention to how it acts with your driving style and then you'll know what mods you would like to put on it.

There is 1 and absolutely 1 thing that cannot stay out of the box and that's the avc reciever that comes with it. The avc recievers will not work correctly with a killswitch, it's well documented here and i have had to change it out of mine as well to accommodate a killswitch.

Spektrum sr515 is the one you want if you choose to stay with spektrum radios

Just a question why does everyone hate the dbxl 2.0 platform so much. Just like any other product in this Hobbie things break. I've heard so many horror story's of many rigs out there Just the same as this one. But I have not had any major problems at all with my dbxl 2.0 I made changes like we all do that's why thus is a great Hobbie we build and make what we need. I'm not trying to start issues just wondering why it's hated so much lol.... I'm new to 1/5 scale I just got a 5t also doing same procedures like u do any new car I disassemble the entire vehicle and double check everything and reassemble making changes I want as needed and I really haven't had problems with to many of my vehicles I did all nitro before I got I to 5 scale. Thanks I. Advance for anyone's input

A hobby friend brought his customers 2.0 to me as the center diff would just diff out and pretty much be fwd, the carb had a bad spring as well because it would only idle with the idle screw wound all the way in. The customer only got to drive it for literally 10 minutes. I tried to correct the diff with 1 mill wt and still would diff out.

The car is built like 10lbs of poop in a 5lb bag. No room to work and it's very cramped. The linkages are cruddy and flimsy, the brake discs are too thick, I can't stand the spark plug protector. The diffs are a known weak point through all generations gas and electric.

The rims and tires are weak and blow apart and the rims crack. People put 5t wheels on and be done with that.

Barley any aftermarket support at all. So count yourself just lucky that's all.

The 5t is just legendary and is built like a brick poop house and is in its own league. The dbxl is a beginner 5th scale and is a throw away that's really about it.

It's an entry level 1/5 with next to no aftermarket support, with tons of issues the 2.0 version barley addressed. I loved mine before I had a 5ive t. Thought the breaking all the time was normal. Nope. Just a cheap platform. Be happy you got a decent one, or drive really nice, or are extremely lucky.

Absolutely get a 5T 2.0 no questions asked. Excellent platform and very reliable.
I got a DBXL2.0 gas and put drivetrain upgrades on it, a Taylor 35cc motor and an Olimat pipe. I’ve got two very unhappy 5T owners playing catch up. Kind of heavy on the $$$, but it does raise some eyebrows!!

I love my DBXL 2.0 gas !! Drove 4 or 5 tanks of gas with no issues, now it’s got a 35cc Taylor motor and you would not believe the difference. If you’re still into 5th scale electric, get the big Arrma Kraton or Traxxas XRT. You won’t be disappointed. So cool when something that big moves so quick and handles so well, right out of the box !!

Kind of funny when you say the rims and tires are weak, yet most tire shoot-outs I’ve read advise to save your money, Losi put great treads on the DBXL. And after around 15 tanks of gas, the only thing that did fail was the Spektrum steering servo.( got 2 from torq now)!!
I’m gonna soak some panties with this statement but imo the dbxl is the biggest turd fifth scale being sold today
I absolutely love my Taylor powered DBXL. Foam35cc’s of quality power makes all the difference in the world. Of course, many upgrades were needed to handle the power, so not much of Losi parts are left. Still, we all do it, 5T, Rovan, Primal, we fix ‘em up the way we want. Hell, I made a 5th scale road car with a castle motor out of 1/4” balsa wood sticks and that 1/4” thick paper laminated foam sheets. Came out great !!

i have the dbxl 2.0 gas, and love it, but i have upgraded it a lot, but from stock there a few things you want to do asap to make it stronger:

Stock shocks are crap! ..were for me anyway, even after a rebuild & stronger springs etc, waste of space, in the end i bought some IRC bigbores, game changer, stock 5T shocks are also a good option that fit straight on i believe.

Aluminium Chassis brace front/rear plus top plate, alloy diff housing if bashing as i believe the stock plastic ones are prone to melting! This will be enough to get you going then just replace with ally if you wish when something breaks. The dibby 2.0 is around £400-500 cheaper than the 5T so by time you do the upgrades it will probably still be a little cheaper than the price of a new 5T, a big chunk of the upgrades is the shocks which are around £200 for a full set of IRC bigbores, so if you can find some use 5T shocks go for them as will be much cheaper prob!

All depends how your going to use it, if your just going to be spinning around car parks/fields etc then there is no need to upgrade big, its only when you start bashing hard you will want to beef up the weak spots.

go with 5T, the only two things i love it over 5ive is it smaller and all drive cups have rubble boot to prevented dust, you can put grease to make it smoother and reduce wearing.

It used to lack aftermarket support but that has improved quite a bit IMO. No longer an issue.

The problem with the DBXL is that you have to buy aftermarket parts. My 5ive-T has been rock solid on 12S. Completely stock drivetrain and truck except some aluminum chassis braces. It is super durable out of the box.

On the other hand, my 8S DBXLE 2.0 has been pretty fragile. Diff issues. Driveshaft issues. Broken links. Bent steering. Broken cage. Broken wheels and tires. Broken hubs.

I drive both cars about the same and while I’m not gentle, I’m also not out there jumping them off ramps. The difference in durability between the two cars is night and day.

5t all day unless you want to spend I am a guessing almost a thousand on Vitavon parts like me then dbxle is great.Had to spend that to get it reliable, I don't baby it but can't beat on it like 5t or xmaxx..... luv all my rc's and dbxle 2.0 is a favorite but took lots of upgrades to keep reliable enough to enjoy. The 5t 2. 0 doesn't break but over time will wear out parts but that's OK with me.

5t any day.

I had some issues with DBXL like others have mentioned. Grub screws falling out of driveshaft , steering post screws fell out and lost the upper bushing ( made new bushing and replaced screws that fell out) , sway bar grub screws = gone , upper links falling off , front spindle carrier snapped on what was not all that hard a landing ( sucks Losi makes you buy the whole set , can't buy just one). I think that is it.
Despite having some issues, it is still a fun truck.
