OK.. well thanks for hijacking my thread.. lolz JK

anyway. Ive decided to go with this pack
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMTX4&P=ML
Should I buy a differernt charger, or use the one that came with the Firehammer MT

This is the other charger I have. but I don't think it will work with this battery pack(different connector) http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/products_id/36970

Your current charger should be fine. Just know it will take a while to charge. Like 2-3 hours. Unless you are using DC power and charging at the 4amp rate. Does it have auto-stop so you can't overcharge the batt?

If it were me, I would look for a pack with the white (Tamiya style) connector. You can stuff alot more amps through the bigger wire and connector.. Or you could just solder on a Tamiya connector.

Trip..

That's smart. I'll probably end up building my own pack because I have a lot of 3300mah GP cells left over from my electric RCs.

MrGrimm..Don't look like any one hijacked your thread....It looks like people have been
adding information about Batteries and use of charger's...
and with all good information....
I would like to say..for any nicad or mah battery you still need to form the batterys
by charging and discharging...so they will hold a charge longer...
not just the nicad..but both batteries....ask the people who build them...
...............Slawhammer...............

very true. cycling the cells helps keep them healthy. i had a few nimh packs i hadn't usec in years. they were 100% dead. they were 3300mah, but only hit 1000 or so before they charger auto stopped. 10 discharge/charge cycles later and just like new. luckily my charger can be set to auto cycle so I just hit go and leave.

MG, your not talking about the wall charger that came with the DTXMT are you? If so that is a garbage item.:( Get a real nice charger it is money well spent.;)

The receiver battery pack does not need to supply much current so having a high-discharge battery or LIPOs is not necessary. Plus, adding a bigger connector does not change the wires on the pack, and the wires will always be the limiting factor, rarely the connector.

The Hydrimax 4200mah battery is a high-discharge type but that is not why you would use it in the FHMT. You use this pack since it has a lot of capacity and is a good price.

The FHMT charger will work fine. It will take about 10 hours to charge a fully discharged pack however.

As others have mentioned, at some point you will want to get a better charger that can auto cycle your batteries for you. You will need to do this periodically for NiMH and NiCD batteries.

The purpose of adding (not changing) the connector is to make it easier to charge with a regular charger. That's one less adapter to worry about.

Sorry, I should have been more specific... I meant, add the Tamiya connector so you could CHARGE it at a higher amperage.. Sorry.

I can't stuff anything higher than about 2 amps through the thin 24 gauge wire, without the wire getting hot.

Trip..

Oops, sorry Trip. I interpreted the statement to mean replace the existing connector with a Tamiya style. Thanks for calling me on that s2l :)

Now that I understand, I agree :)

Naw, it was my fault, what I wrote was misleading... I'm glad you caught it, otherwise I may not have and someone could have changed their connector around, then not been able to pug it into their rec and it would have been my fault!

But wait, if some servos can pull 3 plus amps, won't that cause a problem?

Here are a couple of good priced chargers that will handle cycling NiCD, NiMH and will also balance charge LIPOs. They both seem to be regarded highly by the RC community as far as I can tell in all the forums. I use the E6 and am thinking of getting the Turnigy as well. There are MANY similar 50W chargers out there at different price points, look around!

I bought this one from Tower hobbies about 5 years ago, I can charge everything except Lipos. It's been a great little charger! It has been dropped off the workbench about 15 times and fell off the battery in my S-10, dropped through the wheel well, was then ran over by the back tires.. Still works :D

Thank you. I think I might go with the first one of those two.
