Ya know I think this hobby is not ment to be for me...some one put the whammie
on my firehammer....I fired up the the new rebuilt engine...primed the fuel bulb
set the choke..pulled the starter about 3 times.."pop"..took the choke off...pull it again a couple times..fired up..ran about 30 seconds to 1 minute..blowen smoke...carb needles
were base set H 1 1/2 & L 11/4....it just quit...could not pull the starter..locked up...
By now I am really hot.....third top end......I took it in the house...got away from it for a
bit.....come back and put it on the repair stand....I took every thing apart I had too
get the engine out.....I took the new rebuild engine apart ..down too peace's
got some Brake clean and flushed out the bearings,,cleand every engine part....
Inspected the inside of the cylinder....I seen a small nick or scratch...sanded it out smooth.....inspected the piston....I noticed the wrist pin clip had turned to the slot
tryed to come loose.....I had both clips upward when put in and locked in the groove...
I took it apart..I reworked the piston groove for the clips to set deeper....
I put back together with new clips..and put the engine back together....
and install it back in the car....This took all of 4 hours to do from start to finish....
tear down rebuild the engine to back to running again.........I let the sealant & lock tie set over night to cure.....So I am ready to try this yet again...........
You could say I got lucky on this..I cought it it time before any real damage....
I am going out later to fire this up.....got a break in the weather....sun just came ot
so looks to be in a couple hours thing will be some what dry out.....Been rain here
every day for the last week......So there ya heve the lastest again on this project...
So I will keep ya posted on this.....Slawhammer....

You need one of these!

Yup ..If I were 30 years younger..I might need a engine stand...But for right now I don't
think the $40 dollar investment would be used much....Just a stroke of bad luck is all...
The old saying is "third times a charm"....So will see how that goes....
Nice looking stand ya got.....Thanks for the reply....Slawhammer

Ok I got up on my soap box..yesterday..prayed to the great RC Swammie in the sky...
I took the firehammer out....primed the bulb..set the choke...pulled the starter a couple times.."pop" it goes..dechoked it..pulled again vroom vroom it's running....make couple of carb adjustments....let idle for couple minutes....so far so good.....now's the time for the test...squeeze the trigger on the TX...were moving...using about 1/4 throttle....
driving around in the yard..making circles....1/4 throttle to 1/2 throttle.....
ran 1/2 tank of fuel...about 15 minutes...time to stop for now....I checked the plug
nice and black looking..so were good.......I went back out again about 1 hour later...
filled the fuel tank to the top...Fired up the firehammer again....2 pulls ..vroom vroom
were running again...let idle for couple minutes.....were off again...looking good
I ran the full tank of fuel.....Yeah thanked the BIG RC Swammie In the Sky.....
About time something went right........So now were braking in the rebuild of a rebuild again........I keep ya posted...Slawhammer

Great news.

Cool Slaw you are there now, hope you get hour's of fun out of this rebuild...
Am glad it has worked out for ya....

Get us a video up when she's run in mate:)

Hey super.....Thanks..Yeah I hope this is a winner...Will see how it goes....
so far so good....third time's a charm....Even tho you do it all correct..things still happen
weather looking good here today....So that means for run time on the engine....
want to get this engine broken in ..and get up some vid's...I will keep ya posted...
.....Slawhammer

So far looking good..I got out for about 30 minutes..to run the firehammer....
I got another full tank of fuel ran thru....So that makes 2 full tanks of fuel on this rebuild of a rebuild.....I am keeping the spark plug slightly black..going in to brown color...
I want to get 1 gallon of fuel ran thru this engine ..before adjust for performance of nice
tan color on the spark plug....I want to be sure it is well lubed on the crank bearings...
So far I am happy with this.....I will keep ya posted.....Slawhammer

I did get out for a 3rd time yesterday...Ya know when things got too good...it happens
It Did...just din't seem right..I so brought it back to me and killed the engine....
I took the firehammer in for a look over...found 2 screws backed off the tranny brace..
I took care of that and lock tird the screws....That was not so bad...turned over the
firehammer to check the underside of the chassie.....Holy $g*T..2 engine bolts missing
good thing I used double back sticky tape on the engine mounts...engine never moved..
I lucked out there...could have been transfer gear and diff gear chewed up........
I installed new washers & bolts(Red Locktite)..yes Red..It not going to back out now
if it does I know the cure for that with a small mod to the engine mounts....
Ok UpDate..I got out today for over 1 hour running....another tank of full tank of fuel
HaaahhHOOOOOO no issue's just good fun running......Than rain again.....
I got all the new parts for the 2spd rebuild now...so that will be the next on the list todo
finish breaking in this tope end and check speed with the stock set up....
then install the 2 spd....see what happens there...maybe change out the gearing ..
.................All Replies Welcome.....Slawhammer.....

Dark Soul Cooling Head

Hey super....Here's a picture of the Dark Soul Cooling Head..In case ya forgot what it looked like...This cooling Head goes on top of the Marine cylinder....Yeah I had problems
with the first one I had...But I wanted to be fair judgement on this set up...So I am giving it a second chance....I did modify the cylinder & piston on this one now installed...
This set up is used mostly by boat guys...Those guys run WOT on the water....
It this point I must say the engine after 3 full tanks of fuel is getting stronger for running.....According to Zenoah it takes 1 to 11/2 gallon of fuel for any Zenoah product
like this engine to be at it's best..after being broke -in......I was using the go-ped ADA top end and the clip let go...I will give that also another try....to be fair on the top ends.........It some point in time I plan on building a 27.2 engine............
Thanks super for your reply...I hope to have som fun now for awhile........
Rain day here again......so time to check over every thing.................
.......All Repiles Welcome....Slawhammer.....

Pulled out Turn Buckle

Yada Yada Yada...I got out friday for a bit to run the firehammer..did manage to get
another tank of fuel ran tru for breaking in the engine....Then rain late in the day
I did get out today as well...morning for about 30 minutes running...Had to stop and help
the miss's add dirt to the flower beds..25# lbs.worth....then she said I could go play
with the firehammer....Ok I wanted to do some high speed pass's to see what was for mph....I set the GSP..I hit 32.7 mph.....Made a couple more high speed runs........
Then it happened.....front end went all goofy..just wanted to go in circles.....
Killed the engine....Went ot get the firehammer....Yuo 1 of trip's tricks......
I seen I hit a small pot hole..pulled the turn buckle out of the upper arm....
And like a dumb A$$ today of all days didn't bring along any tools.......
Where I was today was about 2 miles from the house...abanden parking lot...
I wanted to take a picture of the speed on the gps...Yeah well still learning how todo things with the gps..I erased it some how....I will try again to get a recording of the speed ..only this time take the camera along..while it is live with the satilalites...
But I did have a good time......I think the engine is getting better right along.....
Looks like rain coming my way.....So I am hoping to get out some time sunday.....
Enclosed picture...Hey Trip does this look like what you had only on the front....

Well I just wanted to let trip he was not the only one who could pull out a turn buckle
Yes I did the CA Glue trick to fix it....Looks good here today sunny out about 55* degrees for the high today....I will have to check the parking lot to see how much water is standing there.......I still need to get out for some more run time on the engine....
See that the rest of the family plans are......Think one son is going fishing..Miss's is working in the flowers....So that leaves me free to play with the firehammer.........
catch ya all later....Slawhammer.....

Mine is ready for testing today. Everything back together. I hope I can get the hell out for an hour or so.

Csp..good to hear....hope you have a good ride.....I tell ya I got out againg for another
full tank of fuel...Makes 5 full tanks now ran tru the engine....Ya know I rebuilt again the
Marine head with the dark soul cooling head....Seems to be getting better right along...
I will know more once I get to the second gallon of fuel....Nothing serious in running today
speeds were all up and down ranges...Just trying to get some time on the engine....
weather looks good for the up coming week......60's to 70's ..so more time to play...
just easy running as not to brake any thing on the firehammer....Like I say more for the engine.......I will keep ya posted on this right along......Slawhammer.....

Front End Damage to FireHammer

Hey All..Yeah I was out ..had minor problem stsrting..filter was clogged in the carb...got that taken care of..checked spark plug that was black & wet ..so I changed that out.
On taking the spark plug out some threading came out with the old plug...
I always use a 3/8 inch rubber hose to start the spark plug..never a socket...
I got the new spark plug to hold....Now fired right up...Made a couple minor adjustments
on the carb needles....let warm up couple minutes....I am here by the house out back
long grass stright way...I am high jacking this firehammer..faster and faster...
along the neighbor's shed...about 20 good pass's..then out of no where a pipe in the ground....BAM... I tagged it good...Ripped both control arms on the right side..
Bent the lower hinge pin about 45*degree angle......So I am layed up for a bit...
I have arms ..but not sure if extra hinge pin......Hey it was fun.......
Enclosed pictures.....All Replies Welcome..Slawhammer

You tagged that good! Make certain your shock shaft is okay too before you order.

No one should ever be allowed to go home anyway unless they break something anyway (or fuel runs out!).

I have no hinge pins at all. Never have ordered them. Now I may have to get a spare set sometime.

Csp..I jumped in to it..More damage than could see....Both front bulk heads..
holes elongated from the hinge pins being pulled thru....Top of alloy shock cap bent
at 45*degree angle.....As too the shock shaft that is fine....
So looks like about $30 dollars damage in plastic parts & hinge pins...Good thing not all
alloy front end.....So now I know what I have for a repair list......
I go home 97% broke all the time..I need a favor the other way for a change...
Not not brake any thing........Slawhammer.....

Well there's Hope after all...I got every thing back together..............
No hinge pins..in my rat box of parts....I heated the pin with a torch and put in a vice
to get stright....There is no real load bearing on the pin..It came out pretty stright...
I repaired the holes in the bulk head with small washers for now....I had a couple of spare control arms..& e-clips...So were back together..ready for another go.....
No more running by the house....costly error on my part.......I will be taking it to where I run..plenty of open space.........I have my list all ready now to place a order for parts..
e back out some time in the morning......All Replies Welcome....Slawhammer...
