Hello,

Decided to rebuild my diffs and dumped out the stock diff oil which was very thin. Cleaned all the gears and added some traxxas 10k diff oil. Filled up just above the last bar, put gears back in and sealed everything up. First run out, all was good then I heard the grind. Took apart the diff and had some chipped gears. Either I did not close it properly or the oil I used isn’t the right kind. Where can I find diff oil for my Baja? Couldn’t find the gears so just ordered new diff case with gears.

It's alI silicone oil, it don't matter. You probably did something wrong or something let loose and destroyed the gears

I don't really think there is necessarily a wrong kind, like Z said. Its def not the oil, mabe you forgot to install the little shims or something like that 🤔

I checked all the shims and everything felt good. It doesn’t take much to ruin those gears and I probably goofed. So it’s okay for me to use Traxxas 10,000 wt silicon oil?

All what the different weight does is apply resistance to the diff spider gears as the rear wheels are wanting to spin at different speeds around corners. in a straight line your rear is essentially "locked" as both tires are spinning at equal speed. Its when one tire loses traction the gears are overcoming the resistance of the fluid and is able to allow more power to go to that one tire that lost traction... thicker fluid in turns puts more resistance and will lock the diff...whats your plans? Racing or bashing? On my 5t and vekta I run 20 million in the rears because its more entertaining for me to get them to slide around. But since your 2wd you may want to have a thinner viscosity fluid as it may ultimately be hard to control on slick surfaces

What made you decide to rebuild your diffs?

Bought a kingmotor buggy and didn’t trust the quality control on the diff so I tore it apart to check. The fluid in there was probably as thick as milk, had green look to it and smelled like real tranny fluid. I don’t think it was a silicon based fluid, so for peace of mind I wanted to add my own. I did find the problem...I didn’t seal the tranny correctly and that’s what cause the chipped gears. My fault! 🤬
