Hey guys,

I have a problem,
car is moving while idling, the clutch bell is not tight to the clutch , do I need washers ?

Spacing is always one thing that should be done on installation.
Also, if you have been hammering the truck, then the clutch spring could have stretched, at least on one side, causing the binding.
Al.

ok guys to cut the chase, the clutch bell was the 2speed version, when idling the car is moving, so I replaced the clutch although it seems ok, I used HPI clutch, still moving at idle, played with the tunning still moving, replaced the clutch bell with 1 speed clutch bell, still moving ..

what other possibilities can go wrong ? do I have to shave the clutch bell from inside a bit ?

yes the 8000 spring is there. I turned the idle down till it shut down ... lowest idle possible, car still wants to move.

when you turn down the idle screw (the larger screw not the H or L) do the revs actually drop? If not you may need to adjust the throttle linkage to suit. If they do then the clutch need looking at. Have you put a new spring in?

is there marks inside the clutch bell to show maybe the clutch mounting bolts are hitting the inside? you might need a washer on the inside. maybe a bad bearing in the clutch housing is allowing the bell to sit on a bit of an angle and contacting the clutch

Can you spin the clutch bell with the engine off?
Can you hear any binding?

Yes I can spin it, it lookings free spinning nothing is catching other than the clutch itself

It may be an 8k spring, but how old is it? Is it stretched?
Al.

Clucth and spring are brand new.

I check the th/br linkage, it is a the correct position when idling.

Nop, as I changed the clutch, the bell looked fine inside.

Is the rod actually taking the throttle position to idle, at no Tx input/rest position?
Is the rod sticking in the slider at the servo?
Al.

nop. the linkage is good and it sits at idle. Guys I am sure the clutch is engaging too early causing the car to move, this is weird.

check how tight you screwed in the bolts. i changed the clutch in my firehammer this summer and tightened one bolt too tight. when i took it for a spin the one shoe engaged but wouldn't comeback when i lifted off the gas. i looked at the clutch and realized i tightened it too tight so i loosened it a bit and haven't had a problem yet.

I used the stock washers, 1 at the front and 1 at the back each side, so 4 washers in total. is this a common problem with FGs ?

Plus, is it safe to shave the clutch bell from inside a little ?

there has to be a reason it is engaging. you have to find that problem. modding to fix a problem rather than solving will just lead to further problems. it should slap together and work. so it's process of elimination

clutch is in good shape.
shoes move free on the bolts?
spring
something is rubbing the bell
bearing is worn
clutch carrier/side plate is not spaced properly and is out of alignment

does the clutch free spin with the pinion off?
is the clutch bell pulled out far enough to keep it from rubbing? maybe the bearing wasn't seated into the gear plate enough

Clutch is new, its HPI with red spring.
and shoes move free.
Something rubbing the bell ? like what ?
I am not sure about the bearing, but while I was holding the gear plate, I was spinning the clutch bell freely.

BTW shall the pinion be as close as possible to the bearing ? or should I shim it ?

well if the inside bearing wasn't seated in fully the clutchbell could be rubbing slightly on the outside of the clutch. that's why I asked if the clutch spins free without the pinion on.

I like a small shim behind the gear so I know there is a proper sized surface to mate up with the bearing race
