Do I have 1.5 Raminators or two?

I just picked up another Raminator off the locals web. This car is weathered rough, like it was stored outside for a year! Because it was. The tires are completely shot but the plastic rims look like good spares to have. I recently had a tetanus shot so I’m able to touch every screw now. Probably going to snap a lot of bolts and become an extraction specialist.

I have zero faith in any of these servos or electronics. Didn’t even try the pull start.

I’m just wondering if I should use it as a parts car (like 4ws) or build it for my friends. I have a fair amount of extra parts, but would still need a $200-300 hundred more worth plus wheels and maybe a new body, the current one is rattle canned in Raminator Red.

Should I walk away from this wreck and use it as a parts car or start the operation? Not sure what I’m going to find lurking.

Do I get the win for worse looking set of Raminator tires?

BONUS part, I got my side body mounts!

I can drop a thousand into it easily and get all my money back and some! The money is always in the buy and the younger you can learn that the better.

I kind of want to rebuild this with the stock motor just to show people how much different it is when you add a an actual power plant to it, in my case my other is a Max4 with a Johnny crash conversion. Plus I got a spare motor.

Homeboy did not have more dollars than sense, but I did meet him at house and saw zero maintenance was being done on all his RCs. I bought this in a lopsided package deal with cars that were barely $100 new. Going to be sending those to Valhalla with the monster truck!

Kid friendly entertainment!

Sounds like your on track to build a stock #2!
Ya it kind of sounds that way, I’m pretty sure I just talked myself into it and I have most of the parts that are rusted in spares from my other truck. It’s nice when you share parts with other cars. I do have duplicates of almost every car I have because not everyone is thrilled about spending thousands on a high performance rc vehicle (NOT A TOY!). So you have to show them what is up.

Just made an order, I'll need a discount next time. I couldn't let that poor Raminator sit in that condition, it was sad.

Wow, 1 for the score, 2 for the truck left abandoned! Going gravedigger, awsome! Should have gone for much better servos though, those big tires are tough to handle. But you pay like crazy for real good ones.
Rusted bolts...I have a magic trick to share, not sure if I just get lucky but this stuff is freekin amazing on heavy rusted threads. Spray it on , work it back and forth a bit if there's alot of resistance, then it just frees it up like a new thread.

It doesn’t look that bad.
Damn looking for one. They don’t come up for sale much.

I was going to mention you but didn't want to rub it in. Truck could have been much worse considering, was it completely out in the elements or sheltered a bit. Mine is inside a solarium and even during this summer I've noticed surface rust on bolt heads, driveshafts. Definitely going to lug everything to my room inside for the winter, even though I'm dieing to try the big tires on the snow. A liberal coating of regular wd40 keeps Rust from showing up on anything I've used on snow, realy helps the bearings as well

Very nice

Just a FYI, you need 2 of these to replace the current bearing setup.

Takes care

I completely understand about the servos. I find them ok for my use, plus they are cheap to replace! I’d rather have two shocks at every corner on both rigs.

Now if I were doing competitions with it that would be another story.

I got the mega truck with the smaller tires, v3 so it had 100kg servos. Was awsome and plenty of power until I installed the monster tires. They worked fine but my driving habits with the mud tires didn't like it and I rolled the truck twice! Must have hooked one tire pretty good and the steering was locked when I put it back on its wheels...if this ever happens to you I strongly urge you to turn it of and the power! I figured I'd just limp back to the house and the steering even started to work, but I terrible grinding of servo gears was my reward for being to lazy to push, pull, or go get a tractor to bring it back. The four screws on one servo had moved and because they where tight a war started, ordered two agf 100kg from Taylor's at 200 euros each, but ali express would have been 350$ cad each and amazon ca 400$ each!
I'm going to be very critical to check this if ever I roll and the steering goes weird 🙃

Chain is excellent and the grease is very clean. This car wasn’t driven much and there are very few scratches on the bottom of the axles too. I’m very happy so far.

I tried to get that stuff at the depot but they didn’t have it so I ended up with pb blaster. Seems to be working so far, nothing has stripped, Wera, Knipex, and PB Swiss are representing.

Get a small butane torch, got mine at advanced auto, indespensible for heating fasteners.10 to 20 seconds and a tap or two before rotation gets 99 percent of bolts loose.Buy the v3 bolt kit, replaces all the pesky panheads with real socket heads.I replaced every one on my rig.Bought a second kit for spares.

Got her all torn down! Only three dermal cross hatches done! I was expecting a huge fight with rust. These diffs are better looking than my current. Transmission is great. Left a couple of loose place holders in the frame. Now I have to organize the parts.

It is working out well and will be a great car for buddies/family since it only goes 20. This is also the only car my best friend ever said, “Gimme the remote,” now I have to convince his 7 year old son how much better this is than than an Xmaxx. I hate Traxxas business practices and both his parents are lawyers. Buying an Xmaxx, just to send it to Valhalla under the weight of a Monster Truck, has crossed my mind!

My 12s is a monster and I believe it capable of the mid 50’s MPH (12Amp hours of batteries help), so it is not for the armatures and is the only car I have that truly scares me! I have only hit 44 on grass but did pull a hard wheelie at 38mph on the street unintentionally.

Now I have to wait till Thursday for parts, it was supposed to be Tuesday.

This forums help is amazing! Thank you.

Any chance there can be a sticky for must do mods? Just like the typical brass bushing and lock nut mod, easier to lookup screw size, bushing size, and other future things.

Also what are your thoughts on rust stain removal? CLR?

Thanks, unless you are buying from someone you know and trust, you have to do a complete tear down. I’m also one of those people that’s buys new instead of bending back to original form.

On a side note…

In the last two weeks or so, I made an order from Primal for axles and got less straight axles from Primal than I did in this abused car! I’m still upset about that and still haven’t heard anything back from the sales department. This is after I sent an web inquiry immediately after receiving the parts. I have videos of them rolling on granite.

For Rust removal on my stainless sink I tried clr, but iron out. Not sure if you can get that, really surprised you couldn't get the wd40, try a plumbing shop for iron out, you can add it to the salt tank of a water softener system
